MILTON F. MEISSNER
Milton F. Meissner, vice president for operations
of Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation, admin
isters the Arms and Ammunition, Explosives, Ram-
set and Metals Divisions which had been his re
sponsibility for Olin Industries.
A graduate of Lehigh University and Princeton
University’s graduate school, Mr. Meissner was
awarded a Doctor of Philosophy Degree at Ox
ford University, England, which he attended as a
Rhodes Scholar. He is a member of Phi Beta
Kappa and Tau Beta Pi.
Mr. Meissner has been with Calco Chemical
Company, United States Steel Company and Westr
inghouse Electric Corporation. He received the
Westinghouse Order of Merit in 1945 in recog
nition of distinguished service. He joined Olin
in 1950 as assistant general manager of the Metals
Division. In 1952 he was made general manager
and in 1953 he was appointed vice president for
operations,
S. L. NEVINS
S. L. Nevins, vice president for operations of
Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation, joined the
Mathieson organization in 1948 as general man
ager of the ammonia department. He was ap
pointed vice president and director of agricultural
chemical sales in April of the following year, and
later president of the Agricultural Chemicals Di
vision. Before coming to Mathieson, Mr. Nevins
was with Southern Acid & Sulphur Company, Inc.
and Monsanto Chemical Company. A graduate of
the University of Missouri, he is credited with a
number of developments in the manufacture of
fertilizer chemicals. He is a member of the Amer
ican Chemical Society, Chemists Club, and Chem
ical Market Research Association.
WALTER F. O’CONNELL
Walter F. O’Connell, vice president and assist
ant to the vice president for finance of the Olin
Mathieson Chemical Corporation, is a former tax
and financial consultant. He was previously a
partner in the firm of A. M. Pullen and Company,
Certified Public Accountants, Greensboro, N. C.
Mr. O’Connell joined Olin Industries in May,
1952, as assistant to John W. Hanes, who was

for southern operations.
Mr. O’Connell is a native of Hartford, Conn. He
attended Trinity College, Hartford, Conn.; George
town University, Washington, D. C.; and Colum
bus University, Washington, D. C., from which
he received a B.C.S. Degree.
FRED OLSEN
Dr. Fred Olsen, vice president for research and
a director of Olin Mathieson Chemical Corpora
tion, is an authority in the chemicals and ex
plosives industries.
Dr. Olsen is best known for his work in the
development of stable nitrocellulose and for his
invention of Olin Ball Powder which is produced
chemically by a revolutionary safe underwater pro
cess.
A graduate of the University of Toronto, Dr.
Olsen has 45 patents in the field of cellulose ex
plosives. He is a member of many honorary and
professional societies, is a past president of the
Industrial Research Institute and is the author of
numerous articles for technical and scientific pub
lications.
RALPH A. OSTBERG
Ralph A. Ostberg, Olin Mathieson vice presi
dent for production, joined the Olin organization
in 1952 after a career of long and varied experi
ence in management. A native of Boston, he was
Olin’s vice president for production for the fol
lowing divisions: Metals, Arms and Ammunition,
Electrical, Explosives, Ramset and Export.
Before joining Olin, Mr. Ostberg was president
of Edward Ermold Company of New York. He
had previously been vice president and general
manager of Metallic Drawing Roll Company,
Springfield, Massachusetts, vice president and gen
eral manager of A.O.G. Corporation, Providence,
Rhode Island.
Mr. Ostberg attended Boston University and
received a degree in Business Administration.
THEODORE WEICKER, JR.
Theodore Weicker, Jr., is vice president for
overseas operations and a director of Olin Mathie-
s^n Chemical Corporation. He was formerly vice
president of Mathieson and president of Squibb-
