SOCIAL EVENTS
Mr. Wallace expressed his
duties to the paper. He mention
ed that this was his most enjoy
able subject although it required
much of his time and energies.
Herb conveys his deep apprecia
tion to the fellow members of his
staff, to the members of the fac
ulty and Dr. Bushey. He also
wishes to publicly thank Miss
Genevieve Gregg, his secretary,
who assisted tremendously in un
heralded work throughout the en
tire semester.
THERE ARE many unknown
facts that are taken for granted
by the reader of the CRIER. True
the student gets three hours cred
it for the course, but the hours
spent outside of class are numer
ous compared with those spent on
other subjects. The task of get
ting local college news, typing it
up and getting it to the press is a
large job. The correspondence
with other schools and agencies
is an added duty of the staff.
MR. WALLACE explained that
his staff had printed the truthful
facts about the school activities

Thanks
Congratulations are due to
the retiring staff of the Cam
pus Crier for their making the
college newspaper one to be
proud of. During the past fall
semester they have done a lot
of hard work and spent a
great deal of their time in per
fecting the Campus Crier.
When the school term open
ed, a staff was elected to pub
lish Asheville-Biltmore Col
lege’s first newspaper. This
staff was confronted with all
the problems that arise with an
undertaking of this size. They
had no name for the paper and
this was a problem which must
be solved to everyone’s satis
faction. So a contest was held,
with students contributing
their ideas for a name for the
paper. James Hensley, presi
dent of the sophomore class,
thought of the name, CAMPUS
CRIER, and after careful con
sideration hi^ name was ac
cepted over the other entries.
Although we all are looking
to the future for a better
Campus Crier, we still look in
the past and give to the' old
staff. Congratulations.
Durner Named
Ed.-ln-Chief
Of Publication
In the last issue of the “Campus
Crier” much was said about the
retirement of the staff, this was
fact and not fiction. The new
staff members can verify that
one. They have been bathing
their eyes and rubbing out the
writers cramp ever since they
sent their last issue to press.
When a new staff takes over
they have their one and only
chance for a little self publicity.
So why not?
Ed Durner. Editor-In-C h i e f,
started his journalistic endeavors
in Lee Edwards High School as
a sports reporter and feature
writer on the Sky High Staff,
Durner served three years in this
capacity. Ed is nineteen years
old, and in his freshman year.
He was a starter. on this years
football powerhouse, using his
195 pounds at left end. Ed was
named on the Greensboro news
“All-State” football eleven. He
plans to enroll at N. C. State for
a forestry course following his
graduation from A. B. C.
Jack Stewart and Cecil Rob
erts, Managing Editor and Assis
tant Managing Editor respec
tively furnish excellent material
for any newspaper.
Jack is an old hand at news
writing, having had experience
in high schol at Lee Edwards as
a feature man. Last year he
helped members of the Mars Hill
paper although his studies kept
him off the staff. Stewart finds
his greatest joy on the gridiron,
he played fullback and left-half
(but not at the same time) on
last years western conference
winners. Jack’s after school activi
ties are limited to a cute little
brunnette. We will lose Jack next
year to Miami U., we know they
will be glad to get Jacks football
and journalistic talents.
Cecil Roberts needs no intro
duction to sports fans, who saw
him pass, punt, and then run like
a race horse this fall, but not
everyone is a sports fan. Wo
Hear! Cecil is a member of that
large club called “Married Men”.
We were really pleased when we
found that Cecil’s wife had given
him the O. K. to work on the
staff. Mr. Roberts is 23 years old,
a graduate of Lee Edwards High
School and formerly a student at
Mars Hill College.
Sports editor Horace (“Red”)
Patty has a long line of journal
ism experience, starting at Lee
Edwards as a sports and feature
man for two years.
