(Absent when the picture was made, Lyle Davis). KING AND QUEEN TO BE CHOSEN “Who will be the King and Queen of Hearts?”—that' is the question of the week. If you want to find out, come to the Valentine Ball at the Langren Hotel on Sat urday night, February 14. This event is being sponsored by the college for the entire student body. Tickets will be given free of charge to any student wishing to attend. Candidates for the honors were chosen at a meeting of the stu dent body on January 29. The list includes an outstanding group of girls: Nell Owen; Katherine Sev ier, who is active in all school af fairs; and three of our gayest cheer-leaders, Mary Bassett, Bet ty Jean Woody, and Betty Ann Bishop. Nominees for king are all popular boys—J. C. Mull and Joe Harrill of football fame, Graham Price, captain of the basketball team, and Carlyle Davis and Julian “Mater” May, two well-known campus person alities. These will be voted on the night of the dance. Identity of the winners will be kept se cret until time for the coronation. This will be a feature of the floor show to be held at the intermis sion. After Frank Messer, presi dent of the student body, has crowned the King and Queen, they will lead the Grand March. All arrangements are in charge of the Social Committee, whicli includes: “Pat” Sherrill, Mai'y Bassett, Shirley Walthers, Paul Raione, James Hensley, and Johnny Tipton. Faculty members on the committee are: Mrs. Sero- ta, Mrs. Carter, Mrs. Lowrance, Mr. Morley, Coach Coman and Dean Hannaman. The Valentine Ball is the first so cial event to be sponsored by the school this semester. A large crowd is expected to be in attend ance for all the fun and frolic. Present Program At the regular weekly Assemb ly on Tuesday, February 3, a pro gram of spirituals and songs was presented by the girl’s octette of the Allen Home School. The group, under the direction of Miss Jones, sang: “Every Time I Feel the Spirit”, “Heaben”, “Break Bread Together”, “Way Over Jordan”, “Sleepy Hollow Tunes”, “In the Heart of a Rose”, and “Be the B^st of Whatever You Are”. Emogene Moss sang a solo, “The Blind Man Stood On the Road and Cried”, and Doris Delegardo gave a pianologue en titled, “The Worst of It”. The group was well received by all the students, who seemed to enjoy the program immensely. 35 New Students Enter College For Spring Term IT WAS SAID, “Time passes and there is nothing we can do to prevent it.” So goes time, so go the students of Asheville- Biltmore College. These students have left a lasting impression on the college, and in turn, we hope the college has left a pleasing impression on the students. The old comes before the new, so speaking of the old students who have just left, they are: Thurman Baird, Reginald Clarke, Ross Gordell, Taylor Greene, Ed die Harrell, Paul Harris, A. S. Herbert, Louis Leslie, Harold Rice, Jesse Jayne, Mackie Mc Clellan, Stanley Sarella, Joe Ed wards, Robert Walker and Terry Bingham. We wish these students, our friends, the best of luck in the future as they have had in the past. THERE ARE 14 non-veterans and 21 veterans among the new students who are enrolled, and we would like to recognize them now. They are: Donald Alexand er, Rufus Allison, James W. Ard, Harvey Austin, Walter Baker, Harry Ballew, Ralph Bansbank, Jack Brank, Fred Dale, Wilbur Devendorf, Paul Fontaine, Walt er Glance, Smiley Courtney, Paul Greene, Orville Harrison, Clyde Hensley, Lloyd Hinkman, Walt er Lewis, Clyde Leeson, Bruce McNeal, Dwight McDevitt, Jesse Moss, Charles Murdock, Fred Hightower, Jack Mitchell, James Owen, James Patterson, Jack Penley, James Ramsey, Kenneth Rudeen, Scott Sullivan, Henry Simpson, C. D. Trexler, Dwight Wilson and James Warrick. There may be someone we have missed; if so, we will be glad to make a- mendments in the next edition. We are happy to welcome these new members to our collegiate family. HERE IS A brief note on some of the students who recently graduated. Joe Edwards joined the Marines, Terry Bingham is working in Asheville, Stanley Sarella went to West Palm Beach Junior College, Mackie McClel lan also journeyed to Florida to reside there, and Robert Walker enrolled in Davidson College. J. B. Davis has transferred to Mars Hill Junior College. We are al ways interested in the students that are no longer with us and will welcome any news from the alumni.
