C., April 28, 1950 No. 3 May Queen Chosen Miss Betty Ann Bishop was chosen May Queen for the first annual May Day event at Asheville-Biltmore Col lege. Miss Bishop will reign over the May Day festivities which will include a pantomine of Cinderella, a traditional May Pole dance, and folk dancing. Members of the May Court are Miss Rachel Gurley as Maid of Honor, and the Misses Betty Woody, Rose Marie Brown, Nancy Phillips, Nancy Eller, Gail Fisher, and Charline Williams as attendants. Rockie Transou will serve as crown bearer. The cast for Cinderella is Katherine Morgan as Cinderella, Bob Shepherd as the Prince, Ruby Herring and Dot Dean as the Step-Sisters, Katherine Penland as the Fairy Godmother, Alfred John son as the Cobbler, and Quentin Enloe as the Duke. Escorts for Miss Herring and Miss Dean will be George Shotwell and Richard Jordan. In the ballroom scene Jean Harrison will have as her escort Ed Turner, Anne DeHaven with Clarence Ballard, Jean Trumbo with Charles Warfield, Gwen Dalton, with Victor Johnson, PIANIST ENTERTAINS The grey stone walls and oak panels of Seely Hall resounded to the music of Bach, Beethoven and Chopin as our young guest pianist entertained at as sembly April 12. At the age of seventeen, Eunice Way- mon, student at Allen School for col ored girls, is already an accomplished musician. After completing this school year, she plans to continue her study at Juliard School of Music in New York. This may be the beginning of a col orful career for this young native of Tryon, N. C., and with her go our best wishes for success, and a hope she will return and play for us again someday. Don’t go out on a limb like Chop Chop. Vote for Enloe. For Freedom of Speech in Student Government—Vote Reformists. Choo Choo went all the way many times but one time is all Enloe needs for a score. Our candidates are Quentin Enloe, President; Helen Dickerson, Vice- President; Ruby Herring, Secretary; and Bill Bryant, Treasurer. From some scattered signs I see we have opposition, but for really BIG doings watch the Speech Department. Monday is the day. Watch our window for further notice. Jean Wilson with Charles Ficken and Shirley Melton with Gerald Thompson. Winding the May Pole will be Peggy Parham, Dorothy Meadows, Katherine Elder, June Young, Sylvania Lyda, Betty Williams, Arberta Floyd, Hilda Dillingham, Harriet Hunter, and Betty Rohrer. The Folk Dancers will include Pat Boone, Virginia Carter, Hilda Dil lingham, Peggy Parham, Dot Meadows, Betty Williams, Arberta Floyd, and Katherine Elder.
