QUEEN Ai COURT CHOSEN TO REIGN OVER MAY DAY
On February 23 it was announced
that Rose Marie Brown had been
elected May Queen and would reign
over the annual May Day Program.
Her court consists of Jean Harri
son and Dot Meadows from the
sophomore class and Pat Barefoot
and Anne Burnette from the fresh
man class.
The Classical Coeds will sponsor
May Day, with Bobbie Capps as
chairman. The theme chosen for
this year is “Snow White and the
Seven Dwarfs.”
Adapting the tale for presenta
tion are Betty Anne Fryar, Bobbie
Capps, and Sylvania Lyda.
Designing Costumes are Virginia
Speirakis, Joan Dysland, and Jean
Harrison.
Dance chairmen are Carol Weav
er and Jo Price. Miss Francis Mc
Kinney, instructor of physical edu
cation at the Y. W. C. A., has agreed
to teach May-pole dance and folk-
dances for the program.
High School seniors from Lee Ed
wards and various county schools
are to be invited for the program.
Serving on the invitation committee
are Patsy Jansen, Arberta Floyd,
and Modena Penland.
ADLIBBERS MEET
The Radio Club of Asheville-Bilt
more met at the home of Paul Clay
Wednesday evening, February
21. It was decided to have an elec
tion of officers for the new semes
ter, to be held at the next meeting.
The club has great hopes for the
future, with fourteen members in
stead of the nine of last semester.
The club regrets the loss of one of
its most active members, Irene
Sherrell, who was accepted by the
University of North Carolina,
where she will continue her study
in the field of psychology.
MONOGRAM CLUB NEWS
The Monogram Club held its first
spring meeting during the advisory
hour on February 23. Coach Coman
presided over the meeting.
The new business brought up for
discussion was the coming baseball
team that has been rumored here at
A-B. The election of new officers
was held, and George Nicholson
was elected president, Gerald
Thompson vice-president, and John
Nicholson secretary-treasurer.
Among the other discussions dur
ing the meeting was the ’ole famil
iar song of how to raise money for
sweaters for the new and coming
lettermen. A basketball game be
tween the club members and the
faculty of A-B was proposed, but
the matter is undecided as of now.
M. SPEARS NAMED
EDITOR OF BLUETS
Mac Spears was elected editor of
the spring edition of Bluets at a
meeting held on February 23.
Other officers are Quentin Enloe,
feature editor; Mary Higgins, poe
try editor; David Belcher and Bet
ty Anne Fryar, short story editors;
Sylvania Lyda, book review editor;
and Ruby Jean Herring, art editor.
Bluets will be distributed to the
students around the middle of May.
