JIMMY RAY CONDUCTS
ASSEMBLY PROGRAM
A very interesting assembly pro
gram was held on February 28 with
Jimmy Ray in Charge.
He had on display several rocks,
which included samarskite (urani
um, radium ore), calcite from New
Jersey, calcite from Texas, corun
dum (variety ruby), pitchblende
(uranium and radium ore).
With the aid of the ultra violet
light shining on each of the rocks
separately one could see the beauty
of the different colors that appeared
in the rocks.
When asked whether or not every
rock contained these colors, Jimmy
replied, “No, only the ones that
contain minerals would show up
under the ultra violet light.
He was assisted in the demonstra
tion by Lewis Israel and George
McCracken.
