DEAN HANEY IS A FATHER Dean Haney, better known as "Cousin” Dean Haney to his fans who follow "The College Showcase” on WWIT, became the father of a seven pound, ten ounce boy. They named him Terrence Dean. The Vampires Vampires this month walked the halls of Asheville-Biltmore, villains tumbled from its tallest towers, the hero kissed the heroine and this college’s new film production class cranked studiously at their cameras, filming the entire affair. No one really took things seriously; who could with Dean Haney portraying the vam pire.? As an experiment in lighting a mystery film, however the picture was an unquali fied success, even if Dean Haney turned out to be the most lovable vampire of all times. There was a fire at the 200. Everything was destroyed but two slow-burning camels. ASHEVILLE, N. C. Maxwell Elected May Queen Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Maxwell were blessed with the birth of Barbara Kay on May 10, 1936, in Charleston, South Carolina. Little did Asheville know the significance of this event. In 1937, the Maxwells moved to Asheville where they lived for thirteen years before moving to Enka, their present home. Among Barbara’s many likes are those of sports, food, and popular music. When I asked Barbara about her dislikes, she couldn’t think of anything she didn’t like, and come to think of it, we can’t think of anyone who dislikes her. In Barbara’s spare time you may find her playing the piano or taking part in the Alpha Beta Gamma, Classical CoEds, International Relations Club and cheering for our games. On the first of March, Barbara was elected Asheville-Biltmore’s May Queen. All of us at A-B are indeed happy to have Miss Bar bara Maxwell on our campus. Time Out For Spiritual Guidance Jesus answered them, "My Father is work ing still, and I am working!’ John 5:17 Jesus found the meaning of life in work. In my mind’s eye, I picture the Jesus of the Gospels as one whose hands were calloused from labor in a Galilean carpenter’s shop. I see Him as one whose skin became bronzed from the Palestinian sun as He walked the dusty roads helping men and women in their need and suffering. The meaning of our lives also lies in our labor. Through our labor we find our own ful fillment. Too many of us merely work rather than having a job to do. Consequently, we often go to our work with the attitude of "back to the salt mines.” Only as our work is purposeful, is it meaningful, and only as it is meaningful do we find fulfillment through it. Finley Eversole Alabama BUSINESS CLUB Mrs. Lowrance and the Business Club visited Bell Telephone Co. Friday, March 24. The employees showed them Bell’s facilities and equipment throughout the entire build ing. April, 1956 CLUB NEWS c. s. u. Fastenau from the Lutheran Church of Asheville, Job Opportunity The demand for clerical workers is greater than can be supplied by the secretarial de partment. Every girl who desires work is placed now for part-time jobs, with the prospect of full-time work during the summer vaca tion. Instead of the two-year graduates having to seek jobs, they are being solicited for jobs by banks, doctors, etc. There is always a demand for male sec retaries, Mrs, Lowrance urges boys who feel qualified for secretarial work to take courses in shorthand, since it is an opening for so many, worthwhile positions. Students who are planning to go on to graduate work will find shorthand and typ ing an aid for taking lecture notes and get ting out term papers. This Month's Laughs Some Communists love to air their dirty Lenin in public. * * * • Grace Kelly is lucky she saved for a rainy day, because now her days will be Rainier. « * * * A new type of lingerie that fits all kinds of figures is called alge-bra. « * * * Comics prefer having college boys in their audiences, because some of them are bound to be Phar Beta Klappers. * * * * If Lillian Roth appears on Person to Per son they’ll have to call it "I’ll Cry To Mur- row.” * « « * And there was a senator who would al ways go up to the hot dog stand at picnics in his State and order one from the bottom. That was to show he was always for the un der dog.
