C/ No. R-1 RECORDS BEING SET, KIRBY ELECTED This year, the last that we v/ill be "on the hill”, is a record one for us. We have more students than ever before and somehow they seem to feel more enthusiasm than pre viously. The Sophomores are so enthusiastic, in fact, that during class elections they turned in more ballots than there are stur- : dents. The latest vote gave the Presi dency to Elinor Kirby, a capable redhead. V/ith so many students we needed new teachers, and we consider our selves fortunate to be able to welcome Mrs. Serota of the Biolo gical Sciences and Mr, Houck of the Chemistry Departments. We sincerely hope they will love our "college in a castle" as much as we. CLUB NEWS The Spanish Club will have its first meeting Saturday, October l8, at 10:00 in the Assembly Hall. The purpose of this meeting is to elect officers and to choose a worthwhile project for the year. No definite plans have been made by the French Club and no meeting has been called so far. The Cheerleaders have been sew ing industriously on their cos tumes, which we hear will be both fashionable and attractive. DOC »N QUEENIE 0, Queenie, we love you. With tail v;agging smart To us you're the mostest A real vrork of art; And Doc. we do thank you We drink to your health To all us at A-B you’ve added Great wealth. FROM THE SUMIT The SUIiEIIT staff, headed by Jim Daniels and associates Steve Pin kerton and Amy Smith envision an enlarged yearbook. This week the SUIvMIT is sending Amy to Ner York for the Columbia Scholastic Press Association con ference in order to learn better techniques for the producti-n and management of school annuals. She v;ill also find out hovr we fared in the *59 national competition. Amy and faculty advisor Miss Mill er hope to mix b ’.’siness with pleasure and enjoy a feF of the sights and famous restaurants of gay New York. The rest of the staff has turned to ad sales to finance this pro ject. Sales are going very well. If you are v/illing to help sell, see Jim or one of the members of the staff. DANGEROUS DESCENT What v;ould you do if your brakes failed on the trip down the mount ain? First, try using the emergency brake or shifting to a lower gear. If this can't be done^ sideswipe some roadside object to slovr you. As a last resort run into a ditch or up a bank, but keep your car from gaining momentum. It would be impossible to make the extreme curve at the bottom of the mountain at full speed. Scraped fenders are easier to repair than a car that has been rolled. GET WELL V/e regret that Peggy Birmingham has been ill for the past two weeks and is still out of school. We hope she'll be back with us very soon.
