HOMOR STUDENTS ELECTED ID PHI-THET^-KAPPA
Formal invitations to Phi-Theta-Kappa
were given to seven outstanding students
on Thursday, February 9th in the assembly
program. Jim Woody from the Sophomore
Class and John Erickson, Sandra Yelverton,
Mickey Schandler, VJilliam Johnson, Phyllis
Hampton, and V7anda Parkhurst from the
Freshman Class received invitations.
Phi-Tiieta-Kappa is a national honor
ary scholastic sccietj” with chapters in
1)4S' colleges throughout the country.
Members are elected on the basis of
scholastic standing and must be within
the upper scholastic ten per cent of
the student body. Eta Signn chapter of
Phi-Tlieta-Kappa was established at
Asheville-Biitmore in 1950*

MASQITERS PRESH^'T SCENES FROM GREilT PLAYS
The Masquers, under the direction of
Miss Flora McGhee, are carrying out a
program of scenes from great plays.
Their itinerary includes Erwin High
School, March 35 a literary brancfi of
AAUW, March 85 Appalachian Hospital,
March 1^; and A-B assembly, March 23.
The following scenes m^e up their
program; The lover’s quarrel in Mr.
Morgan’s Drug Store from ”Our Town”
with Howard Williams and Nancy Jolly
as George Gibbs and Emily Webb; the
wedding morning from the same play with
David Ellis as George; Margaret Eskridge
as Mrs. Gibbs and Charles Wright and Pat
Wooten as Mr> and Mrs. Webb. A third
scene is depicted by Patricia Alexander
who portrays Emily. The stage manager
for the Thornton Wilder play is Charles
Wright.
The second play is Noel Coward’s
"Cavalcade'* from which John Rinehardt
and Rita Grice play the lover’s scene on
the deck of the Sr S. Titanic.
The third numEer~is a monologue given
by Margaret Eskridge arranged from the
Robinson Jeffers translation of Euripides
"Medea" presented March 8 and 23»

SPANISH CLUB MEl^IBERS PLAl^I ACTIVITrES
Olayl is the shout of the senores y
senoritas of the Spanish Club as they
move into the second semester with bi
weekly meetings at the home of Mike
Escalante a new Spanish student here at
A-B* The meetings include lectures by
senor Escalante, latin music, anc^ strict
Spanish conversation.
On iipril 9 a supper meeting will be
held at Buck’s Restaurant where all
Spanish Club members vji3.1 discuss foods
from latin countries after a brief talk
by senor Escalante.
Both the Spanish Club and the French
Club are looking forward to the rollick
ing annual spring "Fiesta Real" which
concludes the year for both clubs.
