To destroy the western tradition of independent thought, it is not necessary to burn the hooks. AH tve have to da is leave them unread for two gene- *ions. —Hutchins e Asheville Bookstore 67 HAYWCX)D ROAD Ridge FROM PAGE ONE Here is one for the psychol ogy department to analyze. A good looking junior, female va riety, had to walk to Merrimon avenue the other day. She count ed some thirty cars that passed her without one offer of a ride. We have several professors who take nature walks, but very few 4’11” females get their kicks by walking one half mile with an arm load of books. The basketball season gets rolling tonight with the Bulldogs tangling with an alumni team composed of some fine talent. This alumni talent will be off set by a coach who must have escaped from Carolina he Is so bad. If you don’t like basket ball, come anyway. You can always laugh at their coach. To whom It may concern: There has been a growing list of stu dents complaining about Inad equate public telephone service on campus. The one public booth in the student center is frequently used by some stu dents who spend ten to fifteen minutes on the phone. Since there will always be those few who abuse this privilege, it has been suggested that another phone be placed in the student center for public u§e. FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH DE PARTMENT Why not place a sidewalk on either side of the student cen ter building so that students can go from the Humanities build ing to the gym without fighting the mud or going through the cafeteria? It would save a lot of shoe shines. NEEDED; ONE BEANIE FOR SPECIAL PROJECT Contact Charlie Medd if any junior still has a beanie In good condition. CONCERN Is mounting among the growing list of veterans on this campus over the adminis tration’s requiring any veteran planning to graduate here to take physical education. The state universities do not require physi cal education If one has com pleted his military service. Why should A-B? BRIGHT’S JEWELERS 38 College Street Asheville, N. C.
