LEON RUSSELL
Shelter Records
(SHE 1001)
In the music world of
today it seems as if the supers
are getting together in great
numbers to record new
sounds. Leon's release is just
such a L. P. George Harrison,
Ringo starr, Eric Clapton,
Stevie Winwood, Bonnie &
Delaney and many more
come together with an
unbelievable tight sound.
George Harrison's work on
Hummingbird is the best I've
heard. Hummingbird and Roll
Away the Stone have been
released as a 45.
Leon's piano could be at
home at any tent revival and
his rasping funky voice could
only be at home with his
piano. His talent and the help
from such friends as
mentioned make this a special
album ":o ome should ?hiss.
MOTT THE HOOPLE
Atlantic (SD 8258)
Ian Hunter's voice, lead
singer for Mott, has been
greatly influenced by Bob
Dylan. There is a difference
though, Mott has a hard rock
sound that leaves no question
as to their identity. Rabbit
Foot and Toby Time, laugh
at Me, Rock and Roll Queen
and Half Moon Bay are out of
sight.
GINGER BAKER'S
AIR FORCE
Atco (SD 2-703)
For those of you who have
been waiting and wondering
if AIR FORCE would ever
get off the ground, it is here.
Recorded live at The Royal
Albert Hall in London, the
double album has all the
realism and intensity that a
live performance can
produce.
Giner Baker is the best
drummer in existence today,
as he displays through out
this release. There are other
supers that make AIR
FORCE what it is, great.
Steve Winwood, Rick Grech,
Graham Bond are three of the
ten that make this one of the
best album's to be released in
the 70's.
IRON BUTTERFLY
LIVE
Atco (SD 33-318)
There have been few since
the Butterfly that are as
heavy. In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida,
In the Time of Our Lives, and
Filled With Fear are but a few
of the sounds found on their
new album. You could say
that this is their greatest hits
album.
If you have never heard
In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida, which I
doubt, then here is an album
that you should have to
understand what heavy
means.
TYRANNOSAURUS REX
A BEARD OF STAR
Blue Thumb (BTS18)
Marc Bolan and Micky
Finn have put together the
most fantastic sound I've
heard. Their music has a
fairy-tale quality with an
unbelievable electricfying
combination of vocals and
sounds. If you have read Lord
of the Rings or almost any
science fiction book, and
went wild untangling your
imagination from a sonic
freak out of words then listen
to this new release.
Atlantic has a double
album of WOODSTOCK
sounds that should be out
soon, can't wait. The
Airplanes drummer, Spencer
Dryden, amy be retiring from
the scene because he is.
becoming tired of road trips.
It looks as if Ringo is truly
going to release an album of
oldies. Tammie Terrell,
Motown singer, died of a
brain tumor.
Don't forget about our
earth. It was not a one day
thing, EARTH DAY should
be EVERYDAY.
