This will be the first big dance of the year. Keeping in the Hallo ween Spirit, this will be a 50's Sockhop. There will be a prize awarded to the most authentically dressed male and the most au thentically dressed fe male. The festivities will begin at 9:00 at the Greek Community Center on Cumberland Ave. Admission will be free to al1 ful1- time students, staff, faculty,'and adminis tration. $3.00 will be charged per person for non-students, and refreshments will be provided. So get out your 50's garb and let's all go to the hop. Any club or* organ ization that wishes to add more money to their account may do so by sponsoring a SG function. Its two bas ic purposes were to introduce people to Statistical Package for the Social Sci ences (SPSS), and to familarize those al- ^ready versed in SPSS with recent updates in the computer program. The main speaker at the meeting was Ken neth Hardy, Director of the institute for Research in the Social Sciences. Attendance included representa tives from both public and private institu tion's in North Carol ina. About 50 people participated in the workshop from schools such as: N.C. State, ECU, Wake Forest, UNC- G, UNCC, St. Andrews College, and Shaw University. The Political Sci ence Association held its second meeting of the year Wednesday Sept. 10 at the Bava rian Cellar. At the meeting attended by about 12 members and the four political science faculty. New officers were elected for the 1975-/6 aca demic year. Randy Kindly was elected president, Larry Ernst vice-president, and Tom Wernicke, secre- tary-treasurer. HISTORY ASSOCIATION Phi Alpha Theta, the international so ciety of History, is busily preparing for the bicentenial. This year there are plans for a Willamsburg Ball and concert as well as publishing a small book of essays done in colonial style. The organization also hopes to have a spe cial room in the base ment of the library for Western N.C. his torical collections.
