Soccer Team Wins!
Last Thursday, Sept.
18th, UNCA's soccer
team routed the in
experienced Winthrop
forces. The final
score was on the pos
itive side for UNCA,
seven to zero.
It was a good team
effort and we saw a
new act in scoring—
the Lepper Brother's
act. Together George
and Louis scored five
of the seven goals.
George scored three-
one on a beautiful
assist by brother
Louis and another on a
fake which faked Win-
throp's goalie out of
position (probably
giving some grey hairs
to Winthrop"s coach;
possibly thinking of
his future goal defen
ses). Louis scored
two goals. Others
scoring goals were
Allen Wall work and
Campbell Karnes with
one each.
Forwards are ac
counting for most of
UNCA's scoring which
shows a good offensive
team performance.
Jim Mills, the fresh
man goalie, made nu
merous saves that will
improve with each game.
All players on the ros
ter participated, gain
ing experience. To
ward the end Coach
Miller sent the start
ing lineup back into
the game. Many can
Interpret this move
as running up the
score, but Coach Mil-
defends it by stating
that he starts and
ends all games with
the same lineup.
Allen Wall work
could have possibly
scored more goals if
it had not been for
the man-to-man cover
age assigned him by
Winthrop's Coach.
This was a mistake be
cause it left wide op
en spaces for UNCA to
maneuver and score
Winthrop is a first
year team and with
more playing experi
ence can become a team
capable of competing
with anyone.
The previous week
saw UNCA victorious by
the count of five to
nothing over Wofford.
The scoring was as
follows, David Scia-
barasi with one goal,
Allen Wall work two

goals and Louis Lepper
and Jim Grigsby one
apeice. The leading
scorers so far are;
Allen Wallwork with
three goals and Louis
and George Lepper
(there's that brother
act again) with three
each.
Even though UNCA
is undefeated, Coach
Miller is understand-
ingly concerned with up-
comi ng games. The
games mentioned pre
viously were schedul
ed ahead of the others
to serve as a warmup
for tough competition.
Upcoming games will
feature; Warren Wilsoi^
Central Western, Wes
tern Carolina and the
College of Charleston.
This will be the
"meat" of this year's
schedule. Last year,
UNCA surprised a few
folks, by tying
Western Carolina. Un
derstandably, Western
Carolina will be up
for UNCA, but hopeful
ly we will defeat
them this year.
Rudy Moorrees was
elected captain by
his teamates this year.
Preceding each game a
co-captain is elected.
This Thursday's co
captain was Allen
Wallwork and last
week it was Jim Grigs
by. Co-Captains are
determined by previous
game performances. It
will be no surprise to
see one of the Leppers
as co-captain next
week.
Coach Miller feels
that in order to make

playoffs this year, it
