in an interview,
that the WC move
was the result of a
directive issued by
William Friday, Presi

Carolina University
system, after Friday
met with the Chan

WC. Riggs explained
the reasons for the
move as 1) the need
to clarify cne edu

the two universities
for this area and

Under Questionable Circumstances
2 Students Evicted
By JACKIE STEPHENSON
October 27 brought
a change in the living
status of two dormi
tory students here at
UNCA. Barbara Clay
ton and Dugan Lewis
both received eviction
notices from Dean of
Students, Thomas Dea
son, in what has re
cently been termed as
"questionable adjudi
cation. "
In a meeting call
ed by Dean Deason, Ms.
Clayton and Mr. Lewis
were informed of the
charges against them.
Ms. Clayton had been
previously notified
in a letter dated
October 15 from Dean
Deason, that due to
certain violations of
University Regulations,
she was to be put on
probation. Ms. Clay
ton was charged with
violation of this pro
bation in the meeting
called by Dean Deason.
Mr. Lewi's was
charged with being
drunk and disorderly;
however, the security
guard who reported
this violation failed
to arrest Mr. Lewis
at the time of the
offense. As a result
of the charges, the
two students were
evicted froin the resi
dence halls.
Both students
readily admit their
guilt to the charges
against them; however,
both the students in
volved and Student
Government question
the validity of the
process by which the
students were convict
ed.
Several meetings
have been held during
the past week by Stu
dent Government offi
cials including one
special Senate meet
ing. Student govern
ment officials main
tain that the proce
dure by which the
eviction decision was
reached, violated the
Student Government
Constitution and the
Constitutional rights
of the two evicted
students.
The elites of S. G,
base their charges on
the following facts:
1) The student
court was not inform
ed of Dean Deason‘s
meeting as stipulated
in the Student Hand-
book. (Indeed, the
only student present,
