His voice is not the best, but it is
energetic and that makes up for
what he lacks in quality. Steve
Goodman is a superior musician
and he plays the guitar on all but
one of the songs on this album.
“Say It In Private” is a seri
ous album. Eveiy song has some
thing to say diat cannot be called
funny. The lyrics are direct and to
the point. Side one starts with
“I’m Attracted to You“, a sweet
love song. It goes well with the
next song, “You’re the Giri I
Love.” “Video Tape” describes
how life would be so much easier
if our lives were on video tape.
The line, “You could replay all the
good parts and cut out what you
don’t like” sums up the whole
song. “There’s a Girl in tije Heart
of Maryland” is another love bal
lad, “Two Lovers” by Smokey
Robinson is nicely arranged.
Side two really brings out
Steve Goodman’s songwriting abil
ity. “Daley’s Gone” is a poignant
song m memory of Chicago’s late
Mayor Daley. “My Old Man” is
the best song on tiie album. The ly
rics are sensitive and true to reality,
a boy grieves for his father late but
with feelings that only time could
make clear. “The Twentieth Cen
tury is Almost Over” is about the
times we live in and it makes you
wonder if we’ll survive to the next
century.
If you want to join a small
group of kno^edgeable people,
buy this album, listen to it. You’ll
become a Steve Goodman fan by
the end of side two. **Say It In
Private” is a folk-sy album that
should find its’ way into most
quality record collections.

Lynyrd Skynyrd
It’s a pity to say, but Lynyrd
Skynyrd’s last album “Street Sur
vivors” is really pretty much die
same as all their odiers. Through
out the lifespan of-die group, they
progressed^vety litde. Instead, they
gave their fans what they wanted
to hear; namely good old get-down
boogie music. “Street Survivors”
keeps this theme going. The al
bum is really more of an expan-
si(Mi of their previous albums than a
progression.
If you have a taste for a
social protest song like “Saturday
bar review
Night Special”, you’ll like tfieir
new “That Small”. If you liked
their softer bdlad type songs,
you’ll probably Uke “One More
lime”.. And if you like “What’s
Your Name”, “Honky Tonk
Ni^ttime Man” and “1 Never
Dreamed”. The final cut on the
album is a heavy Uues number.
All things taken, if you ran out
and bought all of Lynyrd Skyn-
yrd’s previous albums, go buy
“Street Survivors”, but if you
never like Lynyrd Skynyrd, you
probably won’t like this either.

THE GASLIGHT
Every so often some people
get tired of die same old places in
town to have a few drinks or beers.
What they want is some new
place to go to on a bar-hopping
niglit. Well, maybe ^ere you
need to go is the Gas Lite
Lounge. The name is new, but the
place is old. The Gas Lite was ori
ginally the Trolley Car Lounge
for years to some of us older stu
dents. The location is still the same
which is under the Civic Center
Motel.
The Gas Lite offers basically
a regular place to go drink beers
stead of one or two regular places.
Now as for amusement, there is
pool, fooseball, and color cable
TV. Also, they probably have the
last Happy Hour in town. So when
you are finished at either the
Dock, Caesar’s, Liberty Comer or
the Pub, just saunter on down to
at a reasonable price. They also
have their ABC License for set-ups
but this is mainly to keep their
out-of-town guests happy who
might be staying at the motel.
Their main clientele, though, are
regular working people who like
several places to go to drink in-
the Gas Ute from 7-8 p.m. and
grab your last few half priced
beers. And on Thursdays and Fri
days, they have live music being
performed by the blue-grass band
that performs at the Dock regulariy
Monday through Wednesday.
Is your beer drinking in a rut
due to the places you frequent?
Do you need a new place for
every now and then to go and
quench your thirst? Maybe die Gas
Lite Lounge is the change you
need. At least try it once. Who
knows, you may like die place.
