The
Theatre audiences usually clap
or sometimes boo to express their
feelings about a play. At Theatre
UNC-Asheville's Forum Tlieatre,
however, the audience can be a
bit more speciflc with actors and
director about their criticisms.
Foium Theatre is part of UNC-
A’s drama department’s series of
student directed, one-act plays pre
sented in the afternoons without
admission charge.
The informal atmosphere of
audience participation begins prior
to the performance when refresh
ments are served. The audience is
then invited to stay after the pro
duction for a lively discussion
with director and cast.
This session’s Forum Theatre
begins Thursday, Nov. 3, at 4 p.m.
in the new Carol Belk Tlieatre with
John Millington Synge's “In the
Shadow of the Glen.” Directed by
H. Byron Ballard, the play is an
Irish folk comedy in which a man
feigns death to catch his faithless
wife, but loses her to a stranger in
the end.
Other plays scheduled are “All
Saint’s Day” by off-Broadway play
wright Marian Winters, directed by
juiie Guemple, Tuesday, Nov. 3;
“Present Tense” by Pulitzer Prize
winner Frank Gilroy, directed by
Paul DeVere, Wednesday, Nov. 30;
“The Waiting Room” by English
playwright John Bowen, directed
by Lowell Beard, Monday, Dec. 5;
and “White Lies” by Peter Shaffer,
author of “Equus” directed by
Stephanie Belt, Monday, Dec. 12.
CHRISTIAN GROUP FORMED
Editor
The Student Senate,' most often maligned for its inaction and
rhetoric, deserves sincere congratulations for its concern and speedy
action this week. Ruth Jones, the mainstay of UNC-A’s snack bar, had
a fire in her apartment last weekend tliat caused about SI 100 worth of
damage. In the best legislative tradition, the Student Senate passed a
Ruth Jones Emergency Relief Fund Bill. Some of the campus organi
zations have already pledged money for this worthy cause, and the
Student Government is collecting donations during the lunch hours in
the cafeteria. To help Ruth and show our appreciation for a job well
done, stop by the cafeteria and give what you can.

It is always nice to see non
students take part and help form
activities for students. Chief Ray
of the UNC-A police, with the help
of students, has formed the UNC-A
Christian Fellowship Group here on
campus. This group has been re
cognized by SG and is working
with a similar Mars Hill College
group, and has drawn a possible
helping hand from area churches.
Chief Ray states the group’s
objectives as providing a common
meeting place for all members
of the University community to
share in Christian fellowship and
exert a small Christian influence
on campus. This is not all, though.
