CHANGES
IN ACADEMIC
POLICY ANNOUNCED
A designation of Incomplete (I)
may be given, if the student initi
ates the request on the grounds of
some occurrence beyond the stu
dent’s control, causing him or her
to miss the final examinations or
some other limited amount of work
at the end of the semester or term.
The request must be made before
the end of the last class day and
must state the reason in writing, or
if necessary, by telephone to be
followed up in writing. K the rea
son is acceptable, the instructor
will fill out a short form stating the
reason, the predse work to be made
up (not an additional amount of
class time), the date due (no later
than two weeks prior to the end of
the term immediately following-
summer terms not included). The
instructor should also assign the
grade to be recorded in the event
that the student fails to make up
the work. The form is to be signed
by the instructor, with a copy sent
to the student.
A student may withdraw with
out academic penalty from a term
course up to the end of the third
week of the term, or from a semes
ter course up to the end of the
sixth week of the semester, or from
a summer term up to the end of the
10th day. The student and his or
her advisor must sign the request
form after reviewing the student's
record, future plans and possible
effects upon graduation date, eli
gibility for financial aid, veteran’s
benefits and intercollegiate ath
letics.
If a student or instructor should
discover that an error has been
made in the recording of a grade, a
request of change of grade must be
made no later than the last day of
the third week of class in the term
immediately following the record
ing of the original grade-summer
terms not included. The only ac
ceptable grounds for such a change
are the instructor’s error in the cal
culation of the grade or misjudge
ment in the evaluation of the stu
dent’s work. The instructor will
state the reason on a short form,
indicate the correct grade, sign it
and receive the approval of the
chairman who will also sign the
form.

Students at UNC-A are Incoming more and more alarmed over a strange
new disease that seems to have struck within the last few weeks. The symptoms
are as follows; development of a large, furry, baggy head and the growth of a
foot out of one’s side. People who show signs of the disease are asked to report
to the Infirmary as soon as possible. A spokesman for the campus stated, “We
don’t know what it is but I sure as hell hope that it has nothing to do with the
food in the Cafeteria.”

CONTROVERSY BETWEEN
S.G, AND ADMiSTRATiON
ERUPTS
Another controversy between
the Administration and the Student
Government of UNC-A erupted last
Friday when Finance Commissioner
Sammy Kent discovered that the
Pepsi and Coke machines on the
first floor of the Lipinski Student
Center had been removed' from
Student Government control and
into the control of C & W Vending
Company.
On Friday Jan. 26, Kent went
downstairs to empty the machines
of their money and discovered that
the locks had been changed and
that the price had been changed
from 25 cents to 30 cents. When
he called Coca-Cola to find out
what had happened, he was in
formed that the machines were
now the responsibility of C & W.
He caUed C & W and was told tliat
the machines had been moved to
their responsibility at the author
ization of Mr. Pott (Vice-Chancellor
for Financial Affairs) and Clyde
Me Peters (S.G. Preadent). But
they said that specific autliorization
had come from Mr. Pott. Kent,
angry that he and the Student Sen
ate had not been consulted in the
matter, wrote a letter of resignation
to McPeters, who upon receiving
tjie letter, denied giving authori
zation for the action.
What is still unclear about the
matter is whether or not senatorial
approval was required to make the
decision and whether or not Mr.
Pott authorized the action of his
own accord.
' Kent compared the incident to
the recent Ginger Olson Fund scan-
del that involved the Administra
tion and Student Government in a
series of battles for the better part
of last year. The Ginger Olson
scholarship started in the Akien Ad
ministration had been in an off
campus account at Qyde Savings
and Loan until former S.G. Pres
ident Bill Branham applied for a
new passbook to replace the one

The Mic-Club will meet Monday
Feb 5. Tlie meeting will be held in
the 2nd floor suite of H Dorm. All
interested girls are invited. Please
see Mary Border in H 210 if interest
ed but unable to attend.
The deadline to withdraw from a
course is Friday, Feb. 9, 1979.
Students hoping to enter the
joint WCU/UNCA nursing sclioul
next fall should get applications
from Dr. Kramer at UNCA’s Ad
missions Office. Deadline for sub
mission is Feb. 15.
Due to the increased incidences
of vandalism to the elevator located
in the Lipinsky Student Center, this
elevator is now restricted to use by
handicapped individuals. Those
handicapped individuals who are
members of the UNCA conmiunity
who have a need to use this elevator
may checkout a key for the opera
tion of the elevator on a Semester
basis from Dr. Thomas Dula, Direc
tor of University Relations located
in room 219, Phillips Administra
tion Building.
lost in the Kindley Administration.
Before the passbook could be re
placed, Branham received a memo
from Mr. Pott stating that the
money had been moved back on
campus into Special Account Num
ber 90057. In a letter to the Board
of Directors of Qyde Savings and
Loan, the head teller who was in
charge of the account stated that
Branham asked to close the account
and send the money to Mr. Pott.
Darrell Parker, Finance Commis
sioner for Branham, denied that
such a statement was ever made.
It appears that the whole matter
concerning the drink machines will
have to be turned over to the Sen
ate for consideration. Until then,
the price for drinks on the first
floor of LSC vrill remain at 30
cents.
