i 5 The Barker UNCA to Hold Holiday Ceramics and Art Sale December 6-7 UNC Asheville's art department will hold its annual Holiday Ceramics and Art Sale from 4:30-7pm Friday, Dec. 6, and 10am-2pm Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Owen Conference Center. The sale is open to the public. A wide variety of functional and decorative ceramics and art crafted by UNCA students will be on sale with prices beginning at $5. Proceeds will benefit UNCA*s art department. _ Art Front, UNCA's student art club, will offer gift wrapping for a donation. Proceeds will benefit the club. Atmospheric Science Department Offers Annual WNC Weather Calendar The Atmospheric Science Department Is now selling the 2003 —^ Western North Carolina Weather Calendar. The unique 12-month wall calendar features Asheville cllmatologlcal data, Including monthly temperature and precipitation normals, monthly heating and cooling degree days, plus dally normals for maximum and minimum temperatures. . The calendar also Includes moon phases, daily sunrise and sunset times, and a cllmatologlcal data table of normals, means and extremes for Asheville updated to 2001. The cost of the calendar Is $6. UNCA Receives Second Partners of WNC presented a series of awards to projects and organizations that help promote development patterns which are sustainable and environmentally sound. UNCA, the City of Asheville and the NC Department of Transportation received an Honorable Mention for the Glenn's Creek GreenwayA/V.T. Weaver Boulevard Traffic Improvements. The citation reads: Enhancing the quality of life through a network of greenways in the neighborhoods of the city is an innovative environmental and cultural step for Asheville. The development of a greenway along Broadway's Glenn Creek and W.T. Weaver Boulevard, with traffic calming measures, fosters opportunities to walk and ride bikes, as well as a safer, more pleasant experience for motorists. This project contributes to better water quality in Glenn's Creek by effectively managing large quantities of storm water runoff from UNCA parking areas within the riparian buffer and the greenway.
