awards to projects and organizations that
help promote development patterns which
are sustainable and environmentally
sound. UNCA, the City of Asheville and
the NC Department of Transportation
received an Honorable Mention for the
Glenn's Creek GreenwayA/V.T. Weaver
Boulevard Traffic Improvements.
The citation reads: Enhancing the quality
of life through a network of greenways in
the neighborhoods of the city is an
innovative environmental and cultural step
for Asheville. The development of a
greenway along Broadway's Glenn Creek
and W.T. Weaver Boulevard, with traffic
calming measures, fosters opportunities
to walk and ride bikes, as well as a safer,
more pleasant experience for motorists.
This project contributes to better water
quality in Glenn's Creek by effectively
managing large quantities of storm water
runoff from UNCA parking areas within the
riparian buffer and the greenway.
