The Bulldog Barker An Entertainment Guide Brought to You Every Other yjeeH Bv The Office of gtudent Life "African American Voices of Asheville" In celebration of Black History Month, "African American Voices of Asheville," an exhibit of text and images, will be on view in UNCA's Ramsey Library Third Floor Gallery from February 1st through 28th. The exhibit features excerpts from interviews with African American men and women who experienced dramatic changes in Asheville during the 20th century, including the Depression, World War II, Integration, social upheaval, as well as everyday life. Collected by Dorothy Joynes and Sylvia Robin in the mid 1990s, these interviews are part of the UNCA Ramsey Library Special Collections' "Voices of Asheville Oral History Collection." In the exhibit, the interviews are paired with photographs from several of UNCA Ramsey Library Special Collections, notably the Heritage of Black Highlanders Collection and the Ewart M. Rolling Stone stated that one fan proposed to his girlfriend by leaving Branan's song "Crush" on her answering machine. "Which is essentially a cheesy thing to do," Branan says. "I told him that, and I also pointed out that that song's about obsession. I mean, there's a part where I sing, 'I'm a sixteen- year-old Hitler'!'' This event is free for all UNCA students, $3 for non-students.
