"African American Voices of Asheville"
In celebration of Black History
Month, "African American Voices
of Asheville," an exhibit of text and
images, will be on view in UNCA's
Ramsey Library Third Floor Gallery
from February 1st through 28th.
The exhibit features excerpts from
interviews with African American
men and women who experienced
dramatic changes in Asheville
during the 20th century, including
the Depression, World War II,
Integration, social upheaval, as
well as everyday life. Collected by
Dorothy Joynes and Sylvia Robin
in the mid 1990s, these interviews
are part of the UNCA Ramsey
Library Special Collections' "Voices of Asheville Oral History Collection." In the
exhibit, the interviews are paired with photographs from several of UNCA Ramsey
Library Special Collections, notably the Heritage of Black Highlanders Collection and
the Ewart M. Ball Photographic Collection.

Cory Branan at
UNCA...
Featured in Rolling Stone and
Billboard Magazine, singer-
ii songwriter Cory Branan brings
his honest music and ^^boyish^' charms to the
UNCA Campus on 2/6 at 9pm. Rolling Stone
stated that one fan proposed to his girlfriend by
leaving Branan's song "Crush" on her answering
machine. "Which is essentially a cheesy thing to
do," Branan says. "I told him that, and I also
pointed out that that song's about obsession. I
mean, there's a part where I sing, 'I'm a sixteen-
year-old Hitler'!'' This event is free for all UNCA
students, $3 for non-students.
