Tom Cochran, associate vice chan cellor for academic affairs, compiled the plan which includes the status of women and minorities on campus. The General Administration has not approved the plan yet, but ad ministrators expect approval, accord ing to Cochran. It is a revised version of the 1983 affirmative action plan. Federal law requires that the state implement affirmative action plans, The plan states, "The purpose of the revised plan is to insure that fair employment practices are fol lowed with employees and that equal employment opportunities are avail able to applicants for employment." A copy of the plan is sent to all department heads for them to use when hiring. "We notify each search committee that they are to actively seek mi nority and women candidates," said Cochran. This includes "sending special flyers to black schools" and advertising the position in specific journals targeted to black faculty, said Cochran. Despite the goals of the plan, there are some problems. One pro blem is finding qualified women and minorites especially in some fields, according to Dr. David Kay, chair- Please See PLAN page 16
