A car theft occurred last week on
the UNCA campus with the victim’s
sister spotting the stolen vehicle
sometime later.
Pat Jackson, a student at UNCA
discovered her red 19-7S Datsun 210
missing from the Owen Hall parking
lot March 3 at 12:15 p.m.
Jackson’s sister later spotted two
men driving the car in Asheville.
"My sister saw the car going up
Fairview Road three days ago,"
Jackson said earlier this week.

Low voter turnout
marks SGA elections
By Michael Pauciello
Assistant News Editor
Once again, just as last year, low
voter turnout has marked the SOA
elections.
Out of over 2,700 students, 200
residents and 56 commuters went to
the polls to elect next year’s stu
dent government.
"I can’t figure it out," said Gregg
Thompson, SGA elections commis
sioner. "Three hundred students live
in the highrise; if they have a class,
they have to go through the high-
rise (where the resident polls
were)."
Thompson blames the low turnout
on student apathy. SGA publicized
the election in the Blue Banner in
addition to the many posters aroimd
campus.
The turnout of 256 is lower than
last year’s count of 271, when SGA
called a run-off election for the
president spot.
This year, the decision of pres
ident was much easier as Monica
Bonikowski won the position by a
significant margin over Geoff Cabe.
The other two contested seats,
vice-president and commuter senator,
however, ran so close that the ne
cessary recount took until 10 a.m.
yesterday.
"I anticipated a close race for
vice-president," said Thompson.
"Both candidates are pretty popular
on campus."
Bill Pfeiffer defeated Gwen Zim
merman in that race by a 125 to 123
vote.
The commuter senator race had
three candidates ruiming for two
seats. Kevin Hamlin pulled in 24
votes and Katrina Hartso collected
18 to win the seats over Shawn Fit
zpatrick who had 17 votes.
Two or three voters could have
made a difference, said Thompson of
the two races.
"Because it was close, I called a
recount, but it showed the same
numbers as (Tuesday) night," said
Thompson.
According to the SGA constitution,
