The multi-purpose facility will be located on imiversity land at Broad way and W.T. Weaver Boulevard and will house the N.C. Retirement Cen ter. A recent $500,000 appropriation from the General Assembly initiated the project. The final cost will range from $11 to $15 million, ac cording to Wally Bowen, UNCA dir ector of public information. UNCA officials said the center will be similar to North Carolina State University’s Jane S. McKimmon Center for Extension and Continuing Education. ;They estimate a 1991 completion date once construction funds are appropriated. The proposed center will add greatly to the sense of a dynamic campus, said Bowen. As a public liberal arts university, UNCA has a commitment to the life long process of learning, said Bowen. The Center for Retirement and its Senior Scholars program component will enhance the academic life at UNCA, increasing the opportunities for learning from very talented in dividuals. "We expect the center to attract leaders of the academic and profes sional world.
