Five seconds? Ten seconds? Weigh this against the damage that is being done to flower beds and landscaping on campus. We are so fortunate to have such a beautifully landscaped campus, yet many of the flower beds bear the ugly scars of trampling, and the erosion and compaction of many hurried feet that are trying to save seconds out of their day. Right now, it is particularly im portant to stay on the sidewalks and out of the flower beds because spring is approaching and dormant plants will be starting to emerge. With this is mind, the campus Aesthetics Advisory Committee, in consortium with the physical plant, has arranged to have small signs posted around campus, in places where people have worn conscious paths. The purpose of these signs is to remind you gently that you really are not saving any time by cutting through these sensitive areas. Let the flowers bloom!
