Entertainment Page 6 ITie Hlue Hanner - Sening the University of North Carolina at Asheville since 1982 April 13, 2006 Review Rosetta’s Kitchen a great all-around restaurant for downtown goers By Jessica Chala STAfF WWTER ia Diners find Rosetta’s Kitchen appealing because of its conven ient location, late night hours and tasty vegan and vegetarian cuisine. “It was open after the library closed,” said Nikki Espie, senior cla.ssics student. “I was looking for a place that was going to be open, but not be too weird like Denny’s is sometimes. It was really cool because it was a great place to study.” Rosetta’s opens at II;30 a.m. Monday through Saturday. Thursday through Saturday the kitchen doesn’t close until 3 a.m., and Monday through Tuesday they are open until 10 p.m. Rosetta’s is open for brunch on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. “The space was pretty big, but I was there during the early morning hours, and they still had a lot of people coming through,” Espie said. “It was hopping even late at night.” Rosetta’s handy location at 111 Broadway makes it easy for stu dents to get to for late-night study ing, but also for those who may be downtown for fun. “They are open really late, and you can go there after you have been to some of the downtown bars,” said Lauren Little, Asheville resident. “Plus the food is really good. I had a really good veggie burger and fries to go with it.” Rosetta’s patrons can enter through a door on Lexington Avenue and climb stairs or use an entrance located on Broadway. The restaurant caters to a variety of tastes, but mainly vegetarian. Table sizes vary from two to about six seats, and the walls are covered with yellow paint and art. “It was nice and welcoming,” Espie said. “It was the first time I had been there. There was an open area toward the street, and then there was a back area where you could sit down and dine.” Once restaurant goers are upstairs, they stand in line to place their orders, where they will can pay anywhere between $5 and $12 for a meal. While the dishes are vegan and vegetarian, anyone can enjoy the flavor because the dishes are so well made, according to Little. “I haven’t had a lot of vegan food before, but I liked it a lot,” Little said. “I would say that even if you aren’t a vegetarian you would probably like this restau rant.” Rosetta’s daily menu includes veggie burgers, portabella mush room burgers, pad Thai and sever al prepared salads and casseroles. Rosetta’s serves delicious veg etable pasta with marina sauce served on penne or rice noodles, and its combination of fresh veg etables and spices is definitely a dish to try Brunch on Sunday includes a variety of breakfast items, includ ing waffles and biscuits gravy. “I had these really cool fries that were really good, and they had great sauces to dip them in,” Espie said. “It was very different, not just like ketchup. They had a lot of choices.” If patrons do use the ketchup they can ex^ct a homemade ver sion, according to Little. Rosetta’s also serves a variety of juices, beers and wines to compli- ment any meal. In addition to great food, Rosetta’s staff makes the experi ence more enjoyable, and even though they were busy last Saturday night, patrons hardly waited at all. “Everyone who worked there was really friendly,” Little said. “It only took about 15 minutes to bring out our meal.” The portions provided are huge, and customers might find it hard to eat everything, even though it’s delicious. “The food was really good,” Espie said. “They made sure that you got what you wanted, but then when you started looking at every one else’s food you start wishing that you had gotten that instead. They were also really efficient, and quickly brought out the food.” UNCA students will find that Rosetta’s is close to school, and open for any late-night cravings they may have. “I went there really late at night, but I got my food really quickly,” Little said. “I would definitely rec ommend it to anyone who hasn’t been there.
