In Case You're Sick Infirmary services include visits to the campus doctors, treatments, most medications, information, and assistance. The is no charge because they are covered by your health fee and available to all registered students, part or full-time. All mat ters are confidential. Physical ex aminations are not done, but appoint ments will be made at offices, and students pay costs. The health fee applies to the infir mary only. Anything done off- campus, such as office visits, laboratory work, x-rays, etc., is charged to the students by the agency performing the service. The student also pays pharmacy charges for prescriptions, and costs of food and beverages if staying in the infirmary. Cafeteria food is paid for when brought to the infirmary. DOCTORS AND HOURS: 8:30 A.M.-9:30 A.M. Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Dr. Claude Steen or Mr. Robert Jackson, Physician's Associate. 1:00 P.M.-2:00 P.M. Tuesday. Dr. Judith AAcGahey. 2:00 P.M.-3:00 P.M. Thursday. Dr. John Ransmeier. (Students wishing to see a doctor must be at the infirmary during the first half hour the doctor is due) INFIRMARY HOURS: The infirmary has generous Open Hours, during which students are ex pected to come whenever possible. and for all routine medications and treatments. However, for emergen cies of various kinds, a registered nurse is at the infirmary from 8:00 a.m. Monday through 8:00 a.m. Satur day. During the night an off-campus student must call the infirmary before coming, and on-campus students must see a doctor or campus police officer, then be accompanied by one to the infirmary. OPEN HOURS: 8:30 A.M.-6—00 P.M. (except for lunch) Monday, Wednesday, Friday. 9:30 A.M.-6:00 P.M. (except for lunch) Tuesday, Thursday. 7:00 P.M.-9:30 P.M. Monday through Friday WEEKENDS: There is no nursing service after 8:00 a.m. Saturday until 8:00 a.m. Monday. Campus police are familiar with procedures, and in their office at Vance Hall have medical kit, Ace ban dage, and crutches. They are to be contacted for an emergency, or if a doctor's appointment is necessary. Dr. Leslie Smart is the doctor called. He and his partner have office hours Sunday through Friday, and an emergency hour 4-5 p.m. Saturday. Students may go directly to Memorial Mission Hospital emergency room. Dr. Smart and Dr. Steen are at 1425 Patton Ave., West Asheville. (If non-students in the campus com munity see a campus physician, a nominal charge is made, and they pay cost plus 50 per cent for medications or supplies, with a $1.00 minimum per visit) Faculty/Staff ID Cards Please have your ID card (with pic ture) made in the Learning Resources Center (ZSS 136) if you do not already have one, or if you are a new or part- time faculty member. This ID is to be used for library withdrawals and free admission to sports events and other campus ac tivities. Come by the LRC Office at your con venience between the hours of 8 a.m.-7:30 p.m. on Monday-Thursday from August 27 to September 6. Even ing hours for obtaining ID's after September 6 will be announced later. Notes Of Merit The final broadcast of the long- running "Montage" program at 6 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 2, on WLOS-TV (channel 13) will feature a report on this summer's Elderhostel program at UNC-A. There will be a conversation with Alice Wutschel, Associate Director of ' Continuing Education, and two Elderhostel "campers." Bill Stroupe of WLOS has been host of the Montage series which is being replaced by a news feature program. The UNC-A report was filmed in late June.
