At the begin ning of the second half Blakely kicked to Leonard, who was tackled on his own 23 yard line. Three tries at the line failed to net a first down and they were forced to kick. Bronson received it on his 40 yard line, and ran it back to mid field. Cornwell then made 8 over center. Fitzgerald made a first on the Wingate 38 yard line. A pass from Fitzgerald to Blakely was good for 15 yards and the ball was on the 23 yard line. Blakely on a spinner went over tackle for 9 yards. Fitz gerald then dug his way through the center of the line to the three yard line. Cornwell hit center for two yards and on the next play Fitzgerald plowed through for a touchdown. The pass from center was bad and the ex tra point was not made. Wingate then opened up with her aerial attack, but Bronson intercepted one and the Ramblers started another smashing drive. Aided by the pretty passing of Bronson and Fitzgerald and the receiving of Blakely and Fitz gerald the ball was carried to the one yard line. On the next play a Ruth erford man was penalized for 15 yards, but Bronson went over tackle for 15 yards to place it again on the one yard line. Bronson then spun his way through the line for the touch down. He made his try for extra point good with a drop kick. The end of the game found Win gate trying to score with her aerial at tack, but she was unable to push it over. Bolick, Cox, Walters, Cashion, and Smith were outstanding in the Ruther ford line. While in the backfield Blakely, Fitzgerald, Bronson, Corn- well, and Malcolm all were good. For Wingate, Funderburke, Coble, and Griggs played best in the line. Rutherford Topples Cullowhee Team In one of the best played games ever seen on this field, the Rutherford College Ramblers defeated the strong team from Cullowhee by the score of 12 to 6. The Ramblers started off the game with a bang. Three first downs were made in succession and the ball was soon placed on the 12 yard line. From here Bronson, the Rambler quarter back, called for a pass with Fitzgerald on the receiving end. The pass was completed and Fitzgerald stepped across the line to make the score 6 and 0. Bronson’s try for extra point was wide. The Cullowhee touchdown came from a series of passes and a 15 yard penalty on Rutherford for roughing the passer. The Teachers then began a desper ate attempt to score, but with Tom Walters, Homer Lee Cox, and “Big Cy” Smith playing in their backfield they were forced to punt often. After an exchange of punts, Ruth erford found herself in possession of the ball on her own 43 yard stripe. Again we find “Frisky” Bronson in the hero’s role. He carried the ball on an off tackle play, found himself blocked, reversed his field and ran 57 yards through the whole Cullowhee team for the second Rutherford touch down.
