RAMBLERS TAKS HARD FOUGHT
GAME IN EXTRA PERIOD, JAN. 26
Playing in mid-season form, the
Rutherford Ramblers defeated the
Mars Hill Mountain Lions, in a over
time period here Thursday night, Jan-
uray 26.
Rutherford opened the game by
scoring first when Hutchison slipped
under the goal for a snow bird. He
soon slipped under the, goal again for
a crip and' the score was 4 iand 0 in
Rutherford’s favor. Nettles put Mars
Hill back in the game with two beau
tiful goals. Things were about even
the rest of the first half which ended
with a score of 21-20 in favor of
Rutherford.
The second half was a repetition of
the first, with neither team getting
over a 4 point lead. At the end of the
regular game the score was tied,
52-52.
In the extra period, Rutherford put
on the steam and got a three point
lead, but Nettles again showed some
fast shooting and the score was tied
at 58-58. Eidenhour then sunk a beau
tiful shot from the center of the court
and Bronson made a foul shot just
before the game ended. . '
For Rutherford, Bronson was high
scorer with 18 points followed close
ly by Kelly with 14 points. Eidenhour
and Alexander played good defensive
games. For Mars Hill, Nettles' was
easily high scorer with 28 points , and
Swan played a good defensive game.

Rutherford Drops
Two On Trip
Rutherford’s Ramblers journeyed
down to Campbell on Friday night,
February 10, and came back on the
short end of a 31-21 score: The^ame
was fast and furious with neither
team gaining a big lead until the final
quarter when Campbell went ahead
due to the sharpshooting of Hiatt and
Godfry.
The high scorers were: For Camp
bell, Hiatt and Godfrey with 9 and 6
points, respectively; and, for Euther-
ford, Kelly with 11 and Bronson with
6.
The Wingate Bulldogs defeated
Rutherford at Wingate on Saturday
night by the score of 56-29.
Wingate played a good game with

Belmont Abbey De
feats Ramblers
Rutherford was defeated 29-39 on
the home court on Feb. 4 by Belmont
Abbey. , .
Belmont Abbey gained a slight lead
and held- it throughout the Whole
game. The score at half-time was
20-15.
The first part of the second half
found the Ramblers drawing close to
the Abbey boys, but they could not
stay there. Cantwell and Doris fea
tured the scoring in the last half to
give Abbey a 10 point lead, which
they maintained to the end.
For Belmont Abbey, Cantwell with
10 points and Feldman with 9 points
lead the scoring with Doris playing a
good defensive game while account
ing for 8 points.
For Rutherford, Deal and Kelly
with 7 points each led the scoring
while Eidenhour was playing a great
defensive game.

Wingate Wins Over
Rutherford Here,.
In a game packed with thrills, the
Winga:te, Bulldogs defeated the Ruth
erford Ramblers by th? score of 45-
37. It was a nip and tuck battle from
the start to the finish. Both teams
fought with all their might.
, The game started o'ff witb. a bang
when RidenhoUr sank'"two dazzling
long shots to give the Ramblers a 4
to 0 lead. This did not last long as
the Wingate offense started clicking
and they ran up a lead of 11-5 with
six minutes of the game played. The
Ramblers, not to be outdone, came
back and with Kelly making some
beautiful goals, they went ahead as
the half ended on the long .end of a
20-19 score.
In the second half both teams were
trying desperately to gain a com
manding lead, but they were too even
ly matched. In the final five minutes
of the game Wingate ran up a slight
lead, tut Kelly slipped two long ones
in and the game ended 45-37.
For Eutherford, Kelly was ■■ high
scorer with 13 points with Deal’s 10
points running a close second. The de
fense was featured by Ridenhour and
Sigmon.
For Wingate, Harrington with 16
and Smith with 15 points were the
stars. Gaddy and Coble played nice
games on the floor, ,

Zlamblers Licked
In Extra Period
The Boiling Springs Basketeers de
feated the Rutherford five here on
Thursday, February 2, in a close game,
41-39. An extra period was required
to decide the contest. The game was
a thriller from the beginning with
the lead shifting many times. The
score was knotted at 38 all at the end
of the regular playing time. In the
extra period, Boiling Springs forged
ahead with a goal and a free throw,
while the Ramblers only scored a foul
shot.
Captain Deal led the Ramblers’ at
tack with 20 points, and Ridenhour
and Alexander played a nice floor
game. Jolley was best for Boiling
Springs.
Blue Ridge Five
Trip Rutherford
Coach “Bob” Hayes’ Blue Eidge five.
defeated the Eutherford Basketeers
here on Feb. 6 by a 48-43 score. The
game was very exciting from start to
finish but the Blue Ridgers seemed to
have an edge all the time.
Williams of Blue Ridge was high
scorer for the evening with 19 points
while Wilson accounted for, 10 of the
team’s points.
For Rutherford, Bronson was high
scorer with 16 points while Kelly and
Deal followed with 8 and 7 points re
spectively.
