Forensic Team Enters Tournament Brevard’s first forensic team, com posed of debaters, orators, and dramat ic readers entered the annual Junior College Forensic Tournament held at Charlotte, March 5 and 6. The girls’ negative debating team, with Edith Beard and Geraldine De- Vier, were the only debaters who won a decision. Virginia Barnes, Brevard’s entry in dramatic reading, won thirc place. Nine junior colleges were represent ed; some schools sent delegates for only a few of the events. Brevarc entered all events except after dinner speaking. The forensic team has labored under handicaps all season, and the debaters had only one decisional debate. Two changes were made in the teams only a week before the tournament. De spite these handicaps and the fact that this is the first team, it ,was able to build a foundation for future stu dents of Brevard. The students have been coached by Mr. Pangle and Mrs. Coltrane who are well accomplished in this field. ^ The boys’ affirmative debating team is composed of Odell Salmon and Rem bert McNeer, the negative of Horace Raper and Norman Plott. The girls’ affirmative team is Ida Whisenant and Mavis Shinn, the negative Edith Beard and Geraldine DeVier. Richard Queen represented the school in the oration contest at the tournament, and Virginia Barnes gave the dramatic reading.
