He pointed out the importance of engineering and agri culture in our every day lives and stated that we needed more good agri culture teachers in our present-day schools. He indicated the best fields in this work and made suggestions; but he stated that, whatever field we went into, we should do our best to be come efficient in that work. Among the most helpful things that Dean Harrelson did while here was to go over the engineering and agri culture curriculum at State. He stressed the most important points in these and offered suggestions along this line. He also discussed the qualifications on State for this type of work and told of the chances that one had of obtaining some self-help work to help defray the expenses. After this discussion before the en tire group Mr. Harrelson held individ ual conferences with those who wish ed to talk with him privately and ob tain other information. Shorthand Class Visits Offices Wednesday, April 29, Miss Dolan accompanied her shorthand class, of about twenty students, to Asheville, where they visited several of the larg er offices to observe how the work there is done. Hike To Glen | Aggies Give Barbecue Cannon Falls Last Sunday, April 26, Miss Smith conducted the first spring hike which went to Glen Cannon Falls, leaving about three-thirty and returning at seven. Approximately forty students were among the group, many of whom had not been to the falls before. The group took the shortest course it could, but they hiked, in the course of the after noon, about eight miles. At the falls the group went wading; some found the rock a bit slippery and found themselves walking home in wet clothes. A new course was taken on the return trip for the purpose of enjoying new scenery. Glen Cannon Falls are located about four miles southwest in a creek, just beyond the French Broad River. Hikes of this nature will very prob ably be conducted each Saturday or Sunday until the close of the quarter. Girls Remodel Sitting Room of West Hall Recently the girls of West Hall, un der the direction of Miss Smith, have changed almost completely the appear ance of their sitting room by some re modelling work. Not long ago the Dramatic Club gave quite a bit of money for this purpose, and the girls certainly used it in a good way. Curtains have been made by the girls and put up, the walls have been cal- cimined, the furniture rearranged so as to give the best effect, the piano put in shape, and two new lamps placed in the room. All in all, it looks like a new place, and the daters con sider it the best place to hold their little tete-a-tete now. Miss Smith and the girls should be commended for this good work. The boys of Taylor Hall are plan ning something along the same line. The Dramatic Club also gave them some money for this purpose, and the Taylor Hall Council has convassed the Tomorrow night the Scientific Farm ers’ Union will conduct a barbecue supper near Ross Hall at seven-thirty as a celebration to top-off the final baseball game with Mars Hill. Several pigs will meet their doom at the furnace that has been provided by the “Aggies.” This is the first barbecue meal of this kink to be held on the campus. Tickets (price fifteen cents) are on sale by all members of the Union.
