When the team plays on a small court like the one they practice on, they go just like a house on fire; but I when they get Ion one of any size Mt is harder for them to find the hoop. Before the season is over, however, it is believed that the Brevard boys will be a thorn in the side of their contestants in any of the games that they may play. Just a little reminder: We play the Mars Hill team next Tuesday night up at the Brevard High School gymnasium, and from all reports it seems there will be a good crowd on hand to welcome the Baptists and to cheer our own team on to victory. Since the team has been re organized, it appears that the changes have helped and that the team is now playing more con sistent basket-ball than it has played this season so far. Captain Rogers is leading the scoring at present with fifty- three points, while Hyatt and Stubbs are following with forty points each. Members of the squad and points scored for the season: Rogers, Captain - - 53 Stubbs 40 Hyatt 40 Kiger 29 De Shaw 21 Cauble 13 Speas 7 Edwards 4 Tweed, S. 2 This is taken from the official scorer’s book. Brevard Tornado Trounces Biltmore Coach Rarsfon’s Golden Tor nado hung up another victory in its basket-ball campaign last Sat urday night in d -fi atiup a strong Biltmore College lern. by a mar gin of two pojnts,, which were racked up in an exira period of play. This is the only contest this season that the Rarscn men have had to play an extra period to determine tlie winn* r. Coach Bobby Hipps’ Bulldogs were as powerful as was expect ed, and they displayed some of the fastest playing the Tornado, has experienced this year. Kiger and Stubbs were outstanding for the locals, Stubbs scoring twelve points to be high scorer for the evening for either tefm, and Kiger starring in the final min utes of play to rack up three fr^e shots to account for the dtsirtd margin of victory. Herman was outstanding in the Bulldogs’ lineup, with five field goals and one free goa for a total of eleven points to his credit. Tornado Expects Eusy Week Comment is being heard over the campus that the two literary societies are going to have a basket-ball game, but when and where? This department has checked up on these reports and can get no satisfaction as to the date of this contest. The answer may be at any time when you are not expecting it. This will create a good bit of excitement, and more students will have an in terest in this game than any other on the schedule this year. Start talking and let’s have this game soon. Coach Ranson told about an interesting sports contest the other night that Faculty Versus Varsity Coach Ranson and his com rades who compose the male faculty members of the Brevard College staff will play the Col lege team here February 19 at the high school gymnasium. Coach and Mr. Bennett will lead the faculty, with Deans Buckner and Andrew ’ filling' in gaps. Mr. Bennett is the main stay of the faculty liiieup. In college at Wofford he useS to be a center who could really find the hoop. Coach himself should give his own team a nice time trying to hold him back. The receipts from this game will go to pay for sweaters for the lettermen on the basket-ball team this season. This game will be very good, for the laughs alone. The admission for the contest will be twenty cents to everyone. Cigarettes offers several new watches daily to the people who will send in the best sport ques tion for the week. The.watches are valued at sixty dollars. This you smokers j might be worth trying f o r might get in on. Twenty Grand'what? Coach Arthur J. Ranson’s Golden Tornado will be excep-i tionally busy for the next week; when they meet the Mars Hill Lions and the Erskine Froshi here in Brevard. The Lions will be the first op ponents that the Tornado will rrteet, on Tuesday; and on Thurs day l he Brevard team will en counter the strong Erskine Frosh Quint from Due West, South Carolina. In the previous games wheii the Tornado met these opponents they w. re defeated, in the Mars Hill game by a wide margin and by a closer one in the initial con test of the season with the Ers kine cagers. The Tornado will be in fin® shape for these two games after prepping continually for the con test for the Lions for the past week.
