BANQUET PROGRAM Eddie Carlisle, president oi the council, acted as tuaslnia.sier and issued the welcome. Mr. E. J. Cjltrane, president of the college, offered the invo cation. Mrs. E. J. Coltrane gave the response to the welcome. Music for the occasion was fur nished by Sammie Little, Jack Taggart, and tirank Craven who sang “Dinah.” Jack Taggart and Sammie Little sang “Peter Piper.” Bill Fowltr, piano accompanist, also playtd two piano solos. Jack Taggart sang “Under a Blanket of Blue.” PRINCIPAL SPEAKERS Mr. Coltrane, Mr. Buckner, and Eddie Carlisle were the prin cipal speakers of the evening, with extemporaneous speeches being made by Odell Salmon, Leighton Presson, Jack Reid, Miss Smith, and Mr. Andrew. Mrs. Brown, mother of James Rogers, council member, was introduced to the guests by Ed die Carlisle. Dendy, Professor of Bio logy, at Brevard College. The paintings are richly color ed, and were painted by the dis tinguished New York artist, Harold Anderson, for the Bauch and Lomb Optical Company, Rochester, New York. These paintings of Alhazen, Christian Huygens, and Joseph Fraunhofer are depicting optical progress through the ages. They will be hung in the bio logy laboratory for the inspir ation of science st_Jents. Snap-Shot Contest Winners Are Annoujiced Dr. Smart To Sp^ak Dr. W. A. Smart, professor of theology at Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia, is delivering a series of talks to members of the student body and to the congre gation of the Brevard Methodist Church this week-end. Dr. Smart is in great demand as a speaker, and Brevard Col lege is very fortunate in having the opportunity of hearing him speak. The photos w(,re divided into two sections-personalit.v picturfs and still-life or nature pictures. Three priaes were offered in each sec tion. In the personality picture sec tion James Crouse won both the first prize of two dollars and the second prize of one dollar. Wil- ford Hicks won the third prizj of fifty cents. PRIZES CONTRIBUTED In the still-life or nature pic ture section, Howard Wilkinson won all three prizes. Mr. Wil kinson, who was president of the Photo-Nature Club, contributed the three dollars and a half which he won to the gymnasium fund.
