it was announced last Wednes
day by Leighton Presson, editor
of The Pertelote, that all annual
pictures, both group and individ
ual, have been taken.
Mr, Cooksey, representative
of the Jahn and Oilier Engraving
Company, Chicago, Illinois, was
here Wednesday, March 31, for
a conference with the Pertelote
staff.
The engraving for the book
will be done by the Jahn and
Oilier Company, and the print
ing will be done by the Miller
Press, of Asheville, N. C.

Orders For Plaques
Taken At Bookstore
Decorative plaques, which
were shown to the student body
in the auditorium last Wednes
day, April 7, during assembly
period, may be ordered from Mrs.
McConnell at the college book
store.
These plaques of the college
seal are made of plaster of paris
and may be secured either plain
or colored. The plain plaques
cost twenty-five cents, and the
colored ones are thirty-five cents.

Pickens, South Carolina. A n
order will he sent in the first of
next week. It will take approx
imately two or three weeks for
the orders to be filled and de
livered.
Flash!-Flash!-Flash!
Next week another issue of the
College Bulletin will appear in
stead of the regular Clarion. This
will be the Summer School issue.
Library Gets Three
Current Best-Sellers
Miss Shore recently announced
that two new books, “Wake Up
and Live” by Mrs. Dorothy
Brande and “An American Doc
tor’s Odyssey” b y Dr. Heiser
have been juichasfd with fees
paid to the library on o v e r - due
books.
Last week Mi'-'s Craig present
ed the library with a collection
of Bernard Shaw’s plays; this
book is the best collection of
Shaw’s works.
Several weeks ago the library
was equipped with new hook
cases and a new card catalogue
cabinet.
At present there are about
6,500 catalogued books in t h.e
library, and it is hoped that i t
will be possible to place an order
for about one hundred books lat
er in the spring.
Leaves School
Miss Willa Daughtry, who
was the originator a.id writer of
the column “Lodge or Dodge,”
recently withdrew from Brevard
to continue school in King’s
Busineps College.
Debaters Will Meet
Mnhlenbure College
The Brevard College debaters
will meet the debating teanj of
Muhlenburg College, Allentown,
Pennsylvania, in the college au
ditorium Thursday evening,
April 22.
The debate query is Resolved:
That Congress be empowered to
enact minimum wage and maxi
mum hour laws for industry. The
Oxford-style debate will be used.
Brevard will debate the affirm
ative side of the question. Hor
ace Raper and Paul Westbrook
have been selected as two mem
bers of the team for this debate,
and the third member will be
selected early next week.
This will be the last inter-col
legiate debate of the season for
thecullege Debating Club.
Literary Societies
To Play Ball Game
The Delphian and Cliosophic
literary soc eties will engage in
the first gam^ of a three-game
baseball series trdpy on the col
lege practice field.
Practices for the games were
held this week under the direc
tion of the coaches of the teams.
James Ponder is coach for the
Clios and Eddie Carlisle for the
Delphians. '
The Clios challenged the Del
phians to play this series during
the meetings of the societies last
Friday nigh*^, April 2.
All members of the societies
who are not on the week’s base
ball trip are eligible to play.
Each society will buy a ball, and
the winning team will receive
both balls.
Probable pitchers for today’s
game are: Delphian—Alb-rt Wil
liams; Clios—Ralph Freffitt.
Last year only one game was
played between the two boys’
societies. It was the annual
spring contest between the two
groups, and the Clits Vion.

Three Prizes To
Be Awarded On
Amateur N^ht
The Clarion staff will sponsor
the second annual Amateur Night
program in the college auditori
um at seven-thirty o’clock o n
Saturday evening, April 17.
The contest is open to any
member o f the college student
3ody. All entries are to be
turned in by Thursday noon,
April 15, to “Monk” Landreth.
Individuals, groups, o r clubs
may have an entry in the con
test. All contestants will be
given an audition, and only the
fifteen best numbers will be pre
sented on the program.
There will be a first, second,
and third prize given to the acts
which are adjudged best by three
competent adults.
Tickets will be placed on sale
Monday, April 12, by members
of the Clarion staff. The admis
sion will be ten cents.
This is the second annual Am
ateur Night in th history of Bre
vard College. The program last
year was sponsore d by the Fresh
man Class
The money received from this
program will be used to purchase
cuts to be used in ensuing issues
of the Clarion.
Special Program Is
Planned For Vespers
A special program on “Friend
ship” has been arranged for the
vesper hour Sunday evening at
seven-thirty by Turner . Feezor,
who will be i n charge of t h e
pngram.
Special mubic and appropriate
poems will be presented during
the early part of the program.
Thomas Hall will give a short
talk, asking the question, “Do
You NeeH Friends? What Kind?”
There will be a short talk on
“How to Win Friends,” by Odell
Salmon.
