If we don’t do every one justice on this sports page, we wish to take this opportunity to say that we beg your pardon and will en deavor to give justice to all in the future. HITTING POWER OF TORNADO NINEIMFROVES Those of you many who at tended the game that Coach Ranson’s men played with Mars Hill on Monday, April 26, will re call that the entire team was hitting better in this contest than in any other game that it has played this season. Whether you have noticed it 0 r not, these ni e m b e r s of the college nine that have been shining at the plate in junior college competition have been doing the same in the industrial league games. George Lee, Frank Cauble, Sinclair Deal, and Eb Clayton- all members of our Tornado nine —are carrying off the hitting honors with the Brevard Tanners’ Club in the Industrial League. In fact, these boys compose the Tannery infield. X- LET’S HAVE THE TOURNAMENT What ever happened to the Woman’s tennis tournament? Two weeks ago it was heard over the campus that the women of the college were planning to hold atournamfnt. Since that time we have heard no more about this tourney. If there i s anything that this department can do to help gtt such a tour ney started, we will b e more than glad to help. In reading the Hy Po, weekly publications at High Point Col lege, we find that the sports ed itor’s views on collegiate preFs conventions are good. It would be a fine idaa ta have a press con vention for college sport writers. Congratulations to those who are responsible for the new Bre vard College bus. Work on the athletic field is Brevard to Meet Wingate Sinclair Deal Sinclair Deal is the newly- elected captain of the Tornado Nine. He is an active pitcher, being the only winning twirler that we have on the club, win ning gamts this seafon with Wingate and Mars Hill. Deal came to Brevard College from Newton, where for three seasons he was a member of Dick Gur ley’s Red Devil Nine. Since ar riving here he has made letters in football and baseball and is a member of the tennis te?m this season. Coach Ranson has selected him to work on the mound for the Tornado nine this afternoon with the Oak Ridge Cadets. progressirg. We have mtde this statement time and again, but this time it is true that the aver age bystander can see that we are getting along faster with the project. If nothing interfer es, it should be finished when Coach Ranson calls the first foot ball practice next Setmeber. ^ ^ ^ ^FOR CALLING CARDSj I cAt The Print Shop | iXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX X X X X X x X X X X X X X X X X X XXX Galloway’s Cafe “On The Square’’ THE BEST FOOD IN TOWN AT A ^ REASONABLE PRICE xxxxxXxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Ross Hall Wins In thi initial Daseball contest bjtween the men’s dormitories to bf' played this season t h e R c s s Hall aggregation won a close battle with the Taylor Hall club, last Saturday, in what proved to be a pitchers’ battle. In the only game this season that the Brevard team met the Wingate club I he Tornado won by a decisive score behind the frncy slants o f Captain, Sinclair Deal. Coach Arthur J. Hanson’s Brevard Nine lost its first con ference game of the week here Wednesday to the strong Pres byterian college team from Max- ton, by a score of 6 and 3. At the beginning of the con test the Ranson men showed super power by garnering three hits and two runs in the first in ning to take the lead in the scoring. The visitors overcame the lead in the fourth inning, scoring three runs. George Lee was the leading man with the willow for the locals, getting three for five, while Deal, Clayton and Cauble each secured two hits. The visiting pitcher was very effective for the winners, fan ning nine of the Brevard College men who faced him during the game and allowing nine hits which did little damage. Braf- foard was also headman at the plate for Coach Tubby Hands’ men getting three hits out o f four trtes. Sinclair Deal relieved Sam Tweed in the fifth inning for the Tornado nine and allowed only three hits for the remaining four and a half frames that he work ed. Deal made the sensational catch of the game when he reached up over the fence to grab a long hara hit fly ball from the opposing pitcher’s bat. The game at no time was a runaway; each team threatened to gain a big lead many times. The locals had the bases loaded in the seventh inning, but this proved futile when Tweed went down by the strikeout route to end the rally.
