Talent Night
.To Be Presented
Tonight At Eight
Tonight, in the auditorium, the
students of Brevard college will
have the opportunity of going to
see the big four-ring circus, which
is directed by Miss Carolina Gates
and Mr. Bill Robinson. Various
members of the student body will
participate in the acts.
With Max McCracken as Ring
Master, the affair promises to be
entertaining to all spectators.
Some of the main events will in
clude an all-girls’ football team,
composed of the girls who have
been dating the Tornadoes. To
balance this act, the boys’ foot
ball team will form a male chorus
and serenade the lassies. Prob
ably one of the highest points of
enjoyment will be the scene from
Jerome Kern’s “Show Boat.”
Among the other attractions
will be some impersonations, a
sermon preached from the text
of Mother Goose, several circus
clowns in costume, the Andrews
Sisters in person, a hillbilly band
and Ernest Tubb, Jr. One of the
classes will sing the “Orchestra
Song” as one of its annual pro
jects.
There will* be no admission
charge for this full evening of en
tertainment, which begins at
eight o’clock. However, there will
be a supply of popcorn, peanuts,
.and other typical circus refresh
ments on hand for those who wish
to get into the full spirit of the
circus. The profits from these
sales will be turned over to the
Swicegood Fund.
Ministerial, Music
Students To Give
Church Programs
J. p. Porter, director of the
Brevard college expansion pro
gram, five days ago sent out let
ters to approximately' 200 Metho
dist ministers within a 150-mile
radius of Brevard proposing a
plan whereby the ministerial and
music students of the college
could get practical training in
presenting church programs and
at the same time contact prospec
tive students.
The plans are for these stud
ents to go out in groups of four
or five by automobile to the
churches to which they are in
vited and present musical and
religious programs. The groups
would be made up of different
students each time.
Since the letter went out, five
ministers have shown their ap
proval by inviting groups to
their churches. One of the first
of these trips will be over to
Hendersonville.
Any student interested in tak
ing part in one of the out-of-
town trips may get full details
from either Mr. Porter or Mr.
Swink.
Students Attend
Gershwin Concert
Over 70 students and faculty
from Brevard college attended a
concert of George Grershwin’s
music in Asheville last Tuesday
night. Paul Whiteman and his
concert orchestra presented the
music which consisted of Gersh
win music only. The program was
held in the Asheville city audi
torium.
The group left the campus at
6:30 and returned around eleven.
Miss Gates, who organized the
trip, expressed appreciation for
the fine turn-out and stated that

$600 Needed To
B e Raised For
Coach’s Salary
Plans are now underway to put
“Swicegood Week” over the top
on Brevard’s campus and accord
ing to Ray F. Swink, director of
the program, it should be very
successful. “Swicegood Week”
came into effect when it was
learned that the college would
have to raise $600.00 to pay the
salary of Coach Swicegood.
The board of trustees of the
college did not allot enough mon
ey to cover the costs and the de
cision was left to the students as
to whether they would try to raise
the money or let Swicegood go.
In a recent chapel program it was
decided that a plan would be put
into effect to raise the money and
this week has been designated as
“Swicegood Week” on the cam
pus.
A room to room canvass is in
operation now to collect one dol
lar from each student and a
table has been set up in the lob
by of Dunham Hall to collect
contributions from day students.
At the latest count on Wednes
day, it was estimated that some
thing over $100 had been receiv
ed.
Plans are also underway to put
on an auction Friday evening in
the hopes of raising more jtnoney.
Students will be solicited to give
something that can be auctioned
and Swink has agreed to donate
several college plaques which he
has.
“Coach Swicegood has been a
great help to our football team
this fall and it is hoped that we
will soon reach the 100% mark,”
Swink stated.
