PAGE FOUR THE CLARION March 10, 1950 Rambling With The Sports Editor —By— J. B. THURMOND The Tornadoes have drawn the curtain on a successful basketball season. At the start of the season the team looked like anylShing but a ball club in losing five straight conference games. After these de feats, however, the boys turned the tables and won seven out of nine tilts. Toward the end of the season the Brevard Tornadoes were con sidered one of the best teams in the conference. Their best game of the entire season was played at the tournament in Kings Mountain, where the team dropped a thriller to Gardner-Webb, losing by only five points. JACK McCAULEY . . . Jack was the best all-around player on the team. He played his best game against Spartanburg, the game in which he scored 27 points. CHARLES BREWER . . . Charles was called the fast break artist. He was also noted for his set shots. Teamed up with McCauley, Bre vard had two of the best forwards in the conference. EBBY WILKINSON ... Ebby was known as the best floor man on the quint. He is given credit for having kept the Tornadoes under control many a rough night. He was a valuable defensive guard. BONNER YORK . . . “Most valuable player on the team,” said Coach Bob Andrews. Besides being a fast guard, Bonner could always be counted on to pull down a lot of rebounds for the Tornado team. BERNIE WELCH . . . Bemie improved more than any player on the team during the season. He became a set shot artist, and was also a good team man. KENNY DAVIS . . . Kenny was the Tornadoes’ tall center who possessed an almost unfalterable hook shot. He shot from under the basket with ease. Jones News Stand ‘A Book Store of Periodicals’ TROLLEY SODA SHOP J.
