H. H. Hipps, son of Mrs. J. M. Cook of Mooresville, is a transfer from Brevard college. Besides serv ing on the senate, Hipps also plays varsity football and is a member of the Monogram club. As its title indicates, the play, “The Birth of the Song Silent Night,” by Florence Felton French, dramatizes the historic circum stances incidental to the compo sition of a great Christmas carol. In the cast Reid Gilbert will be the composer, Franz Bruber; Doro thy Gay Rockwood, Mother Gruber; Clinton Tutterow, Father Gruber; Dorothy Wallace, Elizabeth; Helen Hayes, Berta; and Tom Neal, Pas tor Mohr. Francis Price, of the faculty of music will be narrator. The play is under the direction of Mr. Price and of C. E. Roy, advisor of the Christian Fellow ship club. GLEE CLUB TO SING STRICKLAND CANTATA On December 17 the Brevard College Glee club, under the direc- ion of Bruce A. It is reported else where in this issue. DICKENS FOR CHRISTMAS The broadcast of December 24 will be Dickens’ “Christmas Carol,” as arranged for radio and read by Philip E. Kennedy, of the college department of English. EHLHARDT TO SPEAK On December 31, President George B. Ehlhardt in his second appearance on the College Hour will speak on a subject appropriate to the new year. ROUNDTABLES SCHEDULED A discussion by members of the Betty Lamp club will be the fea ture of January 17. In a roundtable discussion the members will deal with social dos and don’ts for young people. They will answer such questions of con cern to the high school and college girl as, “When spending a night off the campus with a girl friend, how can I be a model of good behaviour and enjoy myself at the same time?” Participating in this program will be Dottie Gay Rockwood, Doris Washburn, Billie Cline, Mary Nance Garner, Marianna Young, Mae Higgins, Melba Eller, Belva Nichols, Joyce Brand, Jean Par rish, Ann Duckworth, Caroline King, Carolyn Collins, and Geral dine Barier. Ann Deas, president of the club, will serve as modera tor. The program of January 14 will present members of the Interna-, tional Relations club in roundtable discussion of the subject “Efforts to Maintain Peace, 1947-1950.” In treating subordinate phases of this topic Mildred Skipper will review the Marshall Plan; Mary Dean will discuss the North Atlan tic Pact; Jane Hart will speak of the cooperative efforts of Western European Nations; and Howard Graham, of coperative peace ef forts in Asia. Vivian Simmons, president of the IRC, will preside at the meeting. CHOIR TO AID ALL GROUPS A radio choir composed of stud ents of the department of music, as it has done for broadcasts al ready given during the Brevard College Hour, will provide inciden tal music for these programs.
