Homecoming Celebration Next Week For Alumni
Clios And Euterpians
Have Homecoming
Dance October 27
The Euterpean and Cliosophic
societies will sponsor the annual
Homecoming dance to be held in
the James Addison Jones library
on the evening of October 27, at
eight o’clock. The dance will be
semiformal.
The general theme of the dance
will be the “harvest moon,” and
both decorations and entertain
ment will center around this
theme.
Committees have been appointed
to take charge of the affair and
are now formulating plans. These
committees are composed of Euter
pean and Cliosophic society mem
bers.
Appointed chairman of the food
committee was Mary Dean. Her as
sistants are Rachel Headers and
Carolyn Thrower. The food com
mittee has announced that there
v/ill be a small charge for refresh
ments.
In charge of decoration are co-
chairmen Gloria Starnes and Stowe
Hull. Their assistants are Jane
Bishop and Caroline Davis.
Lila Burgess will be in charge
of publicity, and Bill Whitlow and
Nancy Carson will be responsible
for all musical arrangements.

I. R. Club Meets;
Has Discussion
About Iran
The International Relations club
held its regularly scheduled meet
ing Thursday, October 18. The top
ic of discussion was “England’s
Problem in Iran.” Carol Carter,
Wilburn Harrison and Mary Lillian
Morgan took part in the program
and discussed the various phases
of the problem. The speakers en
tertained questions from different
club members and a discussion fdl-
lowed the formal part of the pro
gram.
Worth Wilkerson, president,
who conducted the meeting, is
sued an invitation to all interested
students and faculty members to
attend the meetings and take part
in the discussions.

Optimistic reports received
this week from President George
Brinkmann Ehlhardt in Duke
university hospital are basis for
hope that the President’s health
will improve rapidly.
Students may address greet
ings to the President in care of
the Divinity school, Duke uni
versity.

College Board Of Trustees Has Called
Meeting; Jones Talb To Student Body
Plans for carrying on the affairs of the college during
the leave of absence of President George Brinkmann Ehl
hardt were made at a special meeting of the Board of
Trustees here on Monday, October 8.
Approximately 24 members of
the board attended the meeting,
and Chairman Edwin L. Jones, of
Charlotte presided.
Because of seriously impaired
health. President Ehlhardt recent
ly was granted a six weeks’ leave
of absence and he entered Duke
hospital on Sunday, October 7, for
observation and treatment.
The board named Dean J. J. Ste
venson as administrative dean of
the faculty and academic instruc
tion and appointed Dr. B. Joseph
Martin, who is the executive direc
tor of the Methodist college foun
dation, to manage all college fi
nances during the absence of Pres
ident Ehlhardt.
At a special assembly meeting
on Monday afternpon. Dean Steven
son introduced Coioner ' Bryan
Moore, of Wadesboro. ^,5pl,pnel
Moore, a member of the Executive
committee of the Board of Trustees
spoke briefly of his pleasure in
the “remarkable improvements’
achieved under* the guidance of the
Reverend Mr. Ehlhardt.
Climaxing the day and the meet
ing of the board. Chairman Edwin
L. Jones spoke to the students and
faculty in chapel and asked for their
continued cooperation. “I want to
tell you and assure you that the
best days for Brevard college are
just ahead,” Mr. Jones declared.
He told of the improvements made
by President Ehlhardt. “In fact,
he gave too much of himself and
injured his health in behalf of
the school,” the speaker continued.
Mr. Jones went on to explain
that the college had been organ
ized at the depth of the depression
as a result of a merger of Weaver

Homecoming Dance
Highlights Activities
Homecoming celebrations will
be in order on Saturday, October
27, when Brevard college observes
its 99th academic year. Graduates
of Rutherford college (1853-1934)
and Weaver college (1872-1934),
as well as those of Brevard insti
tute (1895-1934) and Brevard col
lege, are urged to be on campus
for the varied activities commem
orating the successes of this pres
ent institution and its parent col
leges.
Registration for homecoming
will be held in the lobby of Dun
ham Hall Saturday morning from
10:00-12:00. During this time tours
will be offered through the James
Addison Jones Library and the
Mary Frances Stamey Infirmary,
two of the newest buildings on
campus.
A buffet luncheon from noon
until 12:30 will be served in the
college cafeteria.
Following the luncheon, alumni
of the college will meet for the
annual business session in the re
cently opened auditorium in Dun
ham Hall. Officers of the Brevard
college Alumni association are the

phy, North Carolina, president; the
Reverend Leon Stubbs, Gastonia,
North Carolina, first vice-presi
dent; Mrs. Sidney Feldman, Win
ston-Salem, North Carolina, second

Creek, North Carolina, foui^ vice-
president; Lois Frazier, Brevard,

Lineberry Chosen As
New S.C.A. Secretary
Betty Lineberry was elected on
Thursday, September 27, 1951, as
secretary-treasurer to the Student
council, filling a vacancy created
when Jane Ann Hart did not re
turn to school.
In addition to her duties as sec
retary-treasurer Betty finds time
to be vice-president of the Com
mercial club, secretary-treasurer of
the Chapel committee, assistant to
Miss Louise Moseley, director of
physical education for women, and
an active member of the Mnemo-
synean society. Her favorite pas
times are dancing and playing bas
ketball.
Betty states, “I am very honored
to have been elected by the stu
dents as secretary-treasurer of the
student body. I am sure that we,
the Student council, will have a
successful year, because the stu
dents will back us in everythiiig
we do.”
