Thanksgiving Holiday Clianged From Tliursday
Phi Theta Kappa Has
Tapping For Three
Three sophomores were induct
ed into Phi Theta Kappa, na
tional scholastic fraternity, at
the regular chapel meeting on
Tuesday, November 13. Members

and Charles Yarbrough tapped
Worth Wilkerson, Carl Outen
and Tom Neal in ceremonies
termed simple, but impressive.

Brevard College Joins New Conference
According To Tornado’s Coach Eppley
The Brevard college basketball
and baseball Tornados will be op
erating in a new conference this
year. Brevard has joined with five
other junior colleges of the same
rank in western North and South
Carolina to establish the Western
Carolina Junior Athletic confer
ence. The new conference officially
began operation October 17, when
the six schools — Brevard, Ashe-
ville-Biltmore, Mars Hill, Lees Mc
Rae, North Greenville, and Spar
tanburg—resigned from the Caro-
linas’ Junior College conference.
Thi-ee big reasons factored the
move which created the new league:
(1) The Carolinas conference was
so large and spread out that teams

Holiday Announced

Thanksgiving holiday offi
cially has been confirmed as
Saturday, November 24, in
stead of Thursday, the na
tionally - observed day, ac
cording to an announcement
made today by Dean J. J.
Stevenson, Jr. This an
nouncement is made after ac
tion was taken by the facul
ty to change the holiday be
cause of special request
made by the Student Gov
ernment association.
The association met in chapel
and requested a student body vote
on the matter of having the date
switched. A majority vote of nearly
two thirds confirmed the request
made by students. Then the resolu
tion was taken to the Dean of the
school, who in turn brought up
the matter for faculty considera
tion.
Cafeteria Will Remain Open
Remaining open for Thanksgiv
ing weekend, the college cafeteria
v'ill offer traditional delicacies of
the season. The dining hall will
serve all meals throughout the day
to accommodate those students who
will remain on campus.
Activities On Thanksgiving
Although classes will continue
throughout Thanksgiving Thursday,
there will be special observances
for the occasion. A special chapel
program will be given at 10:00 in
the auditorium.
Thursday evening in the cafete
ria at 8:00, the faculty is sponsor
ing an entertainment program for
all students. There will be dancing
and several kinds of games. The
entire student body and faculty are
invited to this celebration.
Ministers Sponsor
Bible Reading Here
Brevard college will join thou
sands of churches and other schools
wiiich will cooperate with the
worldwide Bible reading program
from Thanksgiving to Christmas,
according to an announcement by
Frank S. McFarland, president of
‘ho college Ministerial club.
Bible readers in many languages
join in using the same selected
list of Scripture passages for this
period of approximately one
month. The movement is headed
by President of the United States
Harry S. Truman—and members of
the central committee for choosing
citations are laymen of inter
faiths.
McFarland states that the club
expects to distribute reading lists
to college students and faculty
