Sntliusiasm Rises As Cheerleaders Improve the year’s work for the Baptist stu dent union. President, Patsy Par; rish and vice president, Mary Mor gan, were carried over from last year, with Dexter Grey being elscS ed devotional leader. It was decided at this organizational meeting that the club will meet bi-monthly. The Brevard cheerleaders, in their new uniforms, have been showing a great deal of talent in controlling the spirit of the basket ball fans at the Brevard games this yiear. The general consensus of opinion at the Mars Hill game was that never before had such a small group of people made so much noise. Under the direction of Miss Mose ley, the cheerleaders have been practicing daily and making large strides toward perfection. Several new cheers have been learned, while the talents have even ad vanced to the place that a new cheer has been composed by the cheerleaders. The aim of the cheer leaders this year is to do their part in an effort to increase the school spirit on this campus. School Spirit Brevard is the proud possessor of a win over Mars Hill for their only conference game of the year. A lot of the students on the cam pus have been declaring that there was no spirit at Brevard this year, but after watching that game, no student could believe that Brevard has no spirit. In fact, our old rivals may be jealous of our ballplayers, but they are probably even more jealous of our cheerleaders and the attached cheerers. It is doubtful that so few have ever made so much nose over one basketball game. The school can be justly proud of its new-found spirit - as well as of its good basketball team. John D. Eversman, recreational director of the Ecusita Paper corpo ration, has beai named head of the department of public relations at Brevard college. President Robert H. Stamey announces. Ml'. Eversman will assume his duties at the local educational in stitution on January 1, and he will also continue to direct the Ecusta band ,which at that time will bs given to the Brevard high school. President Stamey said Brevard college was indeed fortunate in having a man with such wide ex perience to be in charge of public relations. Mr. Eversman will be in cliarge of publicity and will head the student recruitment program. During the past 10 years, Mr. Eversman has (established at Ecus ta a full sized recreation depart ment and program, and in recogni tion of hi'S outstanding work, he is serving at the present time as vice president and director of the Na tional Industrial Recreation associa tion. The new public relations director at Brevard college has always tak en a deep interest in community activities, the college president pointed out. He is secretary of the Brevard Athletic and Recreation as sociation, member of the board of directors of the Brevard Music fes tival, Hendersonville community concerts association, trustee of the Vagabond Players, and vice presi dent and a stockholder of WPNF. “iMr. Eversman will also be of great value to Brevard college in the field of music, for he is an out standing musician Mmself as well as a nationally knofwn band direc tor,” Mr. Staimey said. Students Assist In 'Continued From Page One* being in hand. The lack of relief and the still ever-'present danger of serious outbreaks resulting from the extremely high wind velocity, necessitated a long morning watch, ending only with the appearance of relief crews around lunch time. According to Coach Fitzpatrick, “all had done a very noteworthy job and were in line for congratulations for having done what was their civic duty in a time when all hands were needed to halt the ravages of one of the worst fires in the his tory of Western North Carolina.” Burglars Find That (Continued From Page One) prints, and the results are not ready for publication yet. The po lice think that perhaps this was part of a gang of escaped convicts from Tennessee. In the opinion of Miss Buckner, the would-ibe thieves needed only about a second more and they would have had the safe open. Mr. Owen decided that the order ly, cloistered, studious atmosphere that surrounds Brevard was not for him—he resigned. PATRONIZE OUR ADVERTISERS’ mB OWENBY BROTHERS Your Friendly AMOCO Dealer I S.
