I Sports Session I I By JIM STAMEY | yusnmimiuiiiiMimiiiiiiiiMnmifiimmMiMiiiiiiiiii Q The basketball season is well un der way and it seems that Brevard college has a team it can be proud of. They have lost only one game out of seven. Of these seven games, Mars Hill was the only conference game. I’ll admit that I had my doubts as to how the team would stand up against the conference teams, but after Saturday night, I’m backing our team all the way. Our team seems to be a last half ball club. That is they play their best ball in the last half. In prac tically every game, they have had to come from behind in the last half to win. If and when they start playing ball in the first half like they do the second, they will be hard to stop. The first junior college team that Brevard played this year was Young Harris. It was quite a game with Young Harris Pouring in points from the start to the finish. They outpassed, out rebounded and in general, outplayed the Torna does all over the court. This seem ed to do our team good, at lesst you would have thought that it was a different team playing Mars Hill. Brevard Tops Mars Hill In 81-80 Score Last Saturday night the Brevard college Tornadoes pulled a ;game out of the fire with a finish that would have made Frank Merriwell turn green with envy. After being behind eleven points at the half and 17 points at one stage of the third Quarter, the blue and white eame back with a roar that sent campus morale up approximately 200 per cent and won 81-80. Brevard’s high scorer was ..•kn Stamey, with 24 points. Malcolm followed closely with 19, Hoyle had 10, EUer made 10, and Walton scored 9. The exceptionally good rebounding, plus the smooth ball handling and the general sharpness «f the Tornadoes told the tale. Not once, prior to this game, had the Tornadoes looked so sharp. In the first few moments of play, Mars Hill had built up a 6-1 lead, and for the remainder of the first quarter, it looked as if the home Hill Top Grocery Tel. 3-3221 Clark’s News Stand The Latest in Reading Materials and Hart’s Barber Shop Four Experienced Barbers Best Shoe Shines team was going to be lucky to halve the score. However, the sec ond quarter showed a fairly even contest with the score standing at 44-33 when the horn for the half sounded. In the third quarter, the Lions rolled up a 17 point lead, and the cause began to look hopeless. At this point, and all evidence points to the truth of this theory. Coach Fitzpatrick began passing out some vocal adrenalin during the time-out periods. Anyway, the Tornadoes be gan to shave points off their def icit luitil there was no deficit, and the score stood 81-78 with only a few seconds left in the game. A foul was called on a Brevard man, and Mars Hill closed to 79-81. Another foul was called on Brevard with only 3 seconds left to play, and the first shot was made good by a lAon. The second shot was misserf, trot interference was called agsinst Bfevard, so the shot was re- Players Chosen For Varsity Volley Ball The volley ball varsity has been chosen by Miss Louise Moseley, di rector of physical education, Nancy Carson, president of the W.
