Douglas Corriher, the new minister of the First Methodist church here, was officially welcom ed to Brevard at the monthly meet ing of the Men’s Fellowship club Tuesday evening in the church din ing room. President Ralph Heller presided over the dinner meeting and he presented Mr. Corriher to the large group of men attending. The new pastor succeeds Rev. J. Julian Holmes, who was transferred to Newton after a successful four- year pastorate here. Mr. Corriher comes to Brevard from Asheville, where he was pas tor of the Haywood Street church for the past four years. Prior to that time he was at the Spencer Memorial church in Charlotte for four years and at Matthews and Waxhaw. A native of Columbia, S. C., the Rev. Mr. Corriher moved to Char lotte with his family when quite young. He graduated from Central high school there and in 1937 re ceived his A. B. degree at Duke university. From Duke he went to Yale Divinity school for seminary training, where he served as di rector of youth work and the pas tor’s assistant in the First Congr^ gational church. This required ah extra year in seminary and in 1941 he received his B. D. degree. Representatives are now being se lected to represent Brevard col lege. BSU president, Nick Williams, says that the list has not been com pleted yet, but that several per sons are hoping to attend.
