May Queen Contest
Miss Loretita Helms of Charlatte

the May Day festivities at Brevard
College next spring. Miss To.-nmye
Bradley of Cherokee will serve as
maid of honor.
Queen Loretta is twenty years of
sge; has brown hair, green eyes
and is five feet two inches tall. Sh-j
is a primary education major and
plans to continue her studies at
High Point College. Her hobbies
are basketball, swimming and col
lecting pictures. Loretta was the
Halloween Queen of 1957 and serv
ed in the 1958 college may court.
Tommye Bradley is eighteen
years old and is five feet, six in-
ch'es tall. She has brown hair and
blue eyes and is a physical educa
tion major planning to attend the
UniverETty of North Carolina next
fall. She is very active in sports
end enjoys eating haimlburgers.

In recent class meetings, Mr. and
Miss Freshman and Mr. and Miss
Sophomore were elected.
—The Freshmun class chose Jean-
ie Armstrong and Joe Young as
their ideal representatives. Jeanic
is from Gastonia, and, being a bus
iness major, is active in tihe Bus
iness club. Joe also hails from Gas
tonia but is planning to move to
Asheville soon. He is an engineor-
ijig student.

Sponsor Gala Event
The Chri'stimas dSTice, a newly in
augurated eivent at Brevard Col
lege, will be held tonight, Decem
ber 19, 1958, from 8:30 p. m. until
12:30 a. m. in the Campus Center
auditorium'. The occasion is spon
sored by the Cliosopihics and Euter
pe ans.
As “belle of the ball”, Miss Ani
ta Smith, the 1958 Christmas
Queen, will reign over the festivi
ties. Anita is a graduate of Pleas
ant Garden high school, Pleasant
Garden, North Carolina. A fresh
man at Brevard College, she is ma
joring in secretarial science. Anita
also likes sports and enjoys play
ing the piano.
The “Blue Christfmas” theme of
the dance will be revealed tonight
when the Brevard student body
flocks to the ball to be entertained

The various comimlittees responsi
ble for the dance and their chair
men are: entertainment, Pat Gray;
decorations, Elaine and Loretta
IDelms; refreshment, Gail Har
well and Peiggy Lewis; aind pro
grams, Martha Adams.
Pat Gray and Dick Starnes are
presidents of the Euterpeans and
Clios, resipectively, and the facul
ty advisors of the two societies are
Mrs. Thomas Cousins and Mr. Alex
McFadd'en.
Christmas Pageant
Given By Masquers
A CliristmJas pageant, sponsored
by the Masquers, and created, ar
ranged and directed by Mr. Alex
McFadden, was presented to the
Brevard College student body dur
ing assembly on December 19.
The pageant was a pantomime,
presented against a musical back
ground and with narration of scrip
tural passages by Bruce Taylor.
The effective lighting, narration,
and music set the mood for the pro
duction.
Included in the program were
Murj- Ann Fisher, Jim F^att, Phil
lip Schoonimaker, Tomany Buck
ner, Harrell McDaris, Horace Tur
ner, and Keith Morris. The Brevard
College choir rendered special mu
sical selections, and Mildred Mil
ler sang a solo, .accompanied by
her mother, Mrs. Miller, at the or-
grn.
Costumes for the pagelant were
made by the Play Pi'oduetion class.
Gail Bonnell acted as stage mana
ger, while Tom.my Jiltoert oipera-
ted the lighting.

Christmas at Home, held in Jones
Hall on Sunday, December 14,
from 6:00 p. m. to 8:00 p.‘m. was
sponsored by the Women’s Assem
bly. Guests were greeted at the
door and introduced to Miss Ruby
Plant, Dean of Women; Myra Del
linger, President of Women’s As
sembly; Agnes Haimilton, Vice
President; and PhyUis McCain,.
