A junior college does not offer cheap education. The cost of educa tion at a junior college, it is true, is usually less to the student than at a four-year institution. But the education is not cheap. The junior college uses two methods to keep costs low for the student: (a) Economy. By offering only two years of work it is possible for the college to use its resources ef ficiently and economically. It is a maxim of education that the greater the spread of courses and the more advanced the level of the work, the greater the cost. The con centration of courses at the two- year level is economical, therefore. (b) Supplementary funds. For every dollar a student pays at Bre vard College the College must raise a dollar from endowment and gitts. This is often true of college . junior and senior. Brevard College through economical operation the raising of supplementary funds actually gives students a $1600.00 education for $800.00. 4. The junior college is not a dull college socially and culturally. On the contrary, there are more activi ties per individual or organization than in the senior college. Many op portunities for enrichment are available to the junior college stu dent who has his or her academic work well in hand—opportunities that might be delayed in the senior college for a fuU two years. Freshmen make the athletic teams which engage in a full pro gram of intercollegiate sports. The Brevard College basketball team— which boasts of four honor stu dents—^played 23 games this season, won a Jaycee Junior College Tour nament, and is still to play, as of this writing, in a conference tour nament. Brevard places teams in intercollegiate competition in base ball, track, tennis, and golf too. Freshmen join sophomores in glee club and choir tours.
