Tornadoes Beat A-B, Mars Hill; Lose To Young Harris
In the three games the Bre
vard College Tornadoes have
played since the Christmas holi

press,) they have racked up two
conference wins over Asheville-
Biltmore and Mars Hill and drop
ped a non-conference game to
Young Harris, Georgia.
On January 5 the Brevard team
played Asheville-Biltmore in the

Tornadoes again played on the
home court, this time meeting
the team from Young Harris Col
lege in a non-conference tilt. The
final score in this close, hard-
fought game was 84-77. Don
Wade bucketed 31 points for the
winners, and teammates Larry
Cart and Don Jones added 14
and 12. For the losers, Larry
Brooks was high with 18 points.
Barbee and Jacobs hit for 17 and
12.
January 9 the Brevard players
traveled to Mars Hill College for
a conference game. Four of the
Tornado starters hit in the dou
ble figures as Brevard beat Mars
Hill 74-62. Barbee hit for 23, John
Eller for 17, Jacobs for 13, and
Glover Coggins for 11. Bill Hol-
ston of Mars Hill had 22 and
Dave Hughes 13.

Lead Monogram Club
The Monogram Club held its
first meeting and elected officers
for the remainder of the aca
demic year recently.
Tom Barbee was elected presi
dent of the club; John Eller, vice
president; Charlie Jacobs, secre-
tary-treasurer.
The Monogram Club members
received their jackets Thursday,
December 15. The jackets were
ordered from the All-Sports store
in Asheville.

Statistics Released
Statistics on the Brevard College basketball players for the
first seven games of the 1960-61 season have been released by Coach
Chick Martm. The games were played aaginst Sue Bennett, Mars
Hill (2), North Greenville, Lees McRae, Asheville Biltmore, and
Spartanburg.
Tom Barbee, sophomore forward, leads the team in three out
of four brackets. With a total of 67 free throws out of 88, he
has made 76.1 per cent of his shots from the foul line. He has
pulled down 85 rebounds for a 10.6 average, and has compiled
a total of 205 points for a 25.6 average. His percentage on his
shots is 53, with a total of 69 out of 130.
Guard Charlie Jacobs leads the Tornadoes with the highest per
centage of shots being made. He has 54.1 per cent with 46 of 85.
He has 106 points for a 13.2 average, a 5.4 average on rebounds,
and 56 per cent from the foul line.
John Eller has a 76 shot average, 10.1 rebound average; and
has made 42.3 per cent of his shots and 45.4 per cent of his
free throws. Glover Coggins has a 39.3 percentage as his shots
and has made 50 per cent of his free throws. He has a 9.2 point
average and a 7.1 rebound average.
Larry Brooks has a 9.3 average with 75 points and a 2.0
rebound average. He has hit 62.9 per cent of his free throws and
41.4 per cent of his shots.
“Poochie” Harris has a 42.3 percentage of his shots and he
has made 50 per cent of his free throws. He has a 3.1 point
average and a 1.5 rebound average. Wayne Huntley has a 5.9 aver
age on points and a 2.5 rebound average, and has made 65 per
cent of his free throws and 55.2 per cent of his shots. Bill
Alexander has hit 40 per cent of his shots, and 75 per cent of
his free throws, and has a 2.9 point average and a 3.7 rebound
average.

Last night saw Brevard travel to Gardner Webb for the final
game before exams. The team is now haH-wav through the sea
son and half-wav thrnueh conference pinv. Coach Martin states
that it is honed Mother Luck will be with the team during the
remaining half of the season.
