Orr, Jr. | The biography traces the vital role which Governor Aycock played in the shaping of North Carolina into one of the South’s leading states. He was a Demo-; cratic party leader, governor,' and elder statesman during his, political career. He is sometimes ! called the “Educational Gover-' nor” for his interest in the' improvement and extension of public education. Dr. Orr received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina. He is now a member j of the history and political: science department of North: Carolina State College. He was born in the old Orr home which stood where the present Bre vard College Library is located. His parents attended Brevard DR. OLIVER H. ORR Institute and his father served both as principal and superinten dent of the Instiute. Mr. And Mrs. Perez Will Teach Spanish Next \ ear The Business Office force is being assisted this semester by Mr. Mario P. Perez of Havana, Cuba. Mr. Perez will work in the Business Office for the re mainder of this semester, and the following semester he and his wife will begin teaching here at Brevard College. Mr. Perez will teach advanced Spanish, accounting, and possi bly economics. Mis wife will be teaching beginning Spanish. Mr. Perez was head of the Ha vana Military Academy’s Busi ness Department from 1953 to I960. He was also Senior Pro fessor of Accounting at the Ma sonic University of Cuba. He started teaching at the age of 18 as an auxiliary teacher of busi ness, and in the short span of three years he was promoted to the Head of Commerce Depart ment, and remained there for twelve years. Mr. Perez was affiliated with the Havana Branch of Ford Motor Company, serving as Per sonnel Accessories Supervisor for the entire Carribean area. However, his main interest was teaching, and he resumed tWs profession at the Havana Mili tary Academy. His wife received her Doctor of Education at the University of Havana, and has been teach ing for 15 years at Candler Col- ^Turn To Page Four Amendments To Constitution Are Presented To Students The Student Government Association of Brevard Col lege presented these two amendments to the Constitu tion of the Student Government Association to the Student Body last Wednesday in assembly for their approval or disapproval. Voting will take place Wed nesday, March 29. Resolved that: That part of Article VI, Section 3 of the Constitution of the Student Government As sociation of Brevard College which reads “Each officer and representative must have a “C” or above in all his work at any time grades are reported from the time of his election through his entire term of office. If the grade average falls below a “C” in any subject at any time when grades are officially reported, the officer is automatically disqualified from continuing in office.” be amended to read: “Each officer and representative must have a 1.250 average with no “F” at any time grades are reported from the time of his election through his entire term of office. Failure to maintain these requirements will result in the student being permanently replaced in office.” Group Will Sing hi Washington^ Virginia And North Carolina Plans for part of the forth coming Glee Club tour are still incomplete, with Mr. Hardesty still working to fill up the empty dates in the tour. As plans now stand, the glee club will leave early on the morning of April 15 and go straight to Washington, D. C. Sunday morning they will sing in Alexandria, Virginia; Sunday afternoon, at Washington Cathe dral; and Sunday night, at Mt. Vernonplace in Washington. Monday morning the cluh will sing at Groverton High School in Alexandria. They will be free for the remaining part of the day for sight-seeing. Pam McKinney’s father and mother have invited the group to a buffet supper at their home in Bethesda, Maryland^ on Mon day night. Most of the Glee Club will go to Glen Echo following the supper. Most of Tuesday will be taken up in traveling back to North Carolina. Tour dates completes^ in North Carolina at the present are these; Thursday nighty Cob- run Memorial Methodist Church in Salisbury; Friday night, the Methodist home in Charlotte; —Turn to Page Tliree Resolved that: Section 6 of Article VI read “If the va cancy occurs during the first semester, the va cancy is announced to the Association. The As sociation will then nominate and elect accord ing to provisions in Section I and Section 5 of Article VI.” Be amended to read “If the va cancy occurs during the first semester, a re placement shall be elected by the student body at a called assembly.” AU library books mast be returned by March 25. According to an announce ment by Dean John Bennett, Spring holidays will begin at 12 noon Thursday, March 30, and classes will resume at 8 a.m. Monday, April 10.
