Little Theatre
Opens Season
The Brevard Little Theater
welcomes new and returning
students and faculty to the col
lege. We take pride in seeing
your ability to develop future
leaders for our community,
state and nation increase
through continued expansion in
both facilities and personnel.
This is our fifth year of as
sociation with the college. We
are indeed grateful for the op
portunity to hold our play pro
ductions in your well-equipped
Center Auditorium. Also, we
look forward to having any in
terested students participate in
our many activities connected
with producing the three plays
this year.
Our ’61-’62 season member
ship drive is now underway. We
offer lower cost advance season’s
tickets to help us determine our
budget for the year. They may
be used for three plays at the
college and one during the sum
mer at Flat Rock, the new State
Playhouse located below Hen
dersonville. Doug Scott, Charles
Helton, Carlos Perez, Bobby
Robinson and Dottie Ballew are
selling student tickets for only
$1.25 each. This averagges 31
cents per play!

selected, and we look forward to
a full house.

Besides softball, other activities were
horseshoes, basketball, tennis, arch-
orj', and yes, even a little football.
The day was rounded-out with su'pper

Fall Retreat
The Baptist Student Union is
now organizing under the new
leadership of Mr. and Mrs. Hen
ry Reddick of 114 Robinson St.
Mrs. Reddick is employed in the
Bursars office, while Mr. Red
dick is district manager of Pru
dential Life Insurance Company.
A fall retreat to one of the
area camps is planned for the
first monthly meeting on Octo
ber 7, Activities for the day in
clude recreation: tennis, hiking,
and softball. Hamburgers slaw,
potato chips, and soft drinks
will be served. Following sup
per, plans for the coming year
will be discussed.
Due to the large number of
Baptist students, the college bus
will be available each Sunday
for transportation to church
The officers for the current
year are Charlotte Sentelle,
President; Carol Livingston,
Program Chairman; and John
Goins, Publicity Chairman. Vice-
President and Secretary are to
be elected from the Freshman
class.

The Mnemosynean Society of
Brevard College held its first
meeting in the faculty dining
room, Monday, September 25.
Officers elected for the year
are: Linda Sheffield, President;
Phyllis Voight, Vice-President;
Kennlon Carlson, Treasurer; and
Carole Padgett, Treasurer.
Kennlon Carlson was also
elected the Nemo mascot, “Little
Miss Nemo”. Committees were
selected to plan the year’s ac
tivities. Also discussed were
plans and ideas for admitting
and initiating the new members
of the club.
The MASQUERS, the dramatic
club of Brevard College, held
its first meeting in Dunham Hall,
Tuesday, September 19. Since
the president did not return
this semester, Joel Stevenson,
vice-president, became the new
president. Wade 15dwards was
elected vice-president.
The members decided to pro
duce a one-act play for the stu
dent body to be given in chapel
sometime before the Thanks
giving holidays. Try-outs for
parts will be announced later.
If you are interested, watch for
the date, which will be posted
soon.
The ar.rival of the 1961 fall
semester at Brevard College has

music for the event last year.
The dance, as explained by

The dance is to be entirely in

Six Members
Added To Faculty
After welcoming all new and
returning students to Brevard
College, Dean Bennett intro
duced the six new members of
the faculty to the student body.
Dr. Julian L. Culbertson is
the acting head of the chomistry
department. He received his A.
B. degree at Hanover College,
his M. A. at Indiana University
and his Doctor of Science degree
