Conference. Expected to offer
the strongest challenge is Enka
with its strong relay teams and
superb field event performers.
Lee Edwards, Brevard, Reyn
olds and West Henderson also
boast strong teams.
Flans for the sectional were
drawn up last week by a com
mittee consisting of Martin as
chairman, Walt Shuford of
Lee Edwards, Cliff Brookshire
of Brevard, Bill McElrath of
Enka and Rob Brown of Hen
dersonville.
Early indications are that more
than 15 teams and over 400 ath
letes will be entered in the meet.
In view of performances thus
far in other meets existing rec
ords aren’t expected to withstand
Friday’s assault in at least eight
events if good weather prevails.
The schedule for the sectional
events follows;
11:00 a.m. — Trials in high
hurdles, discus and road jump
finals.

After the baseball team drop
ped a 12-7 verdict to Wingate on
April 28th they still met with
bad luck as they lost two dou
ble headers in a row, losing to
Anderson and Spartanbiu-g re
spectively.
In the Anderson games David
Cort hit safely in four out of
seven times at bat. Cort went
three for four in the first game
and one for three in the second.
In the opener it was Westmore
land against Westmoreland. An
derson’s Westmoreland was the
winning pitcher over Brevard’s
Westmoreland. LeRoy Westmore
land also lost the second game.
Spartanburg clipped the Tor
nadoes 5-4 and 5-1.

When the Christmas vacation
rolls around next year the Bre
vard College Tornadoes with
Coach “Chick” Martin at the
helm, will be rolling into Bmg-
hamton. New York, on December
29th to compete in the Broome
Tech Christmas Classic basket
ball tournament to be held there
December 29-30.
The Tornadoes, who finished
the past season ranked ninth in
the nation after playing in (he
National Junior College Tourna
ment in Kansas, will be playing
with three other highly ranked
junior college cage teams in the
annual tourney at Binighamton.
I Other schools in the tourney
j are Joliet, Illinois Junior Col
lege, Jackson, Michigan Junior
of the first game with none
aboard.
A foul ball record may have
been set by Brevard catcher Joe
Humphries. In the sixth inning
Humphries fouled off 12 straight
balls before he flyed out to the
left fielder.
Robert Stallings was robbed of
a siu'e homer in the bottom of
the seventh inning when the
center fielder raced far to his
right and caught the ball just
before it was about to clear the
hedge. Stallings is beginning to
make a habit of being robbed of
home runs as he was also robbed
in the Wingate game.
Brevard is host to Gardner

with the first game getting un

Coach Martin who announced
the acceptance of the invitation
by the Tornadoes, was most
pleased that his quintet had been
invited to participate in the class
ic.
i All three teams that are in
the tournament besides Brevard
are constant participants in the
national tournament in Hutchin
son. From our view point we will
predict the Tornadoes to give the
other teams all they can handle.
