PAGE FOUR THE CLARION AUGUST 29, 1905 Fm: Capt. Bligh Re: Discipline SPORTS (Continued from Page One) signed and directed toward the realization of these goals. On the other hand, I would have you believe that Brevard College has no rules designed to repress or stulifying your self-expression or individuality. It is a belief dear to me that meaningful ex istence is possible only when measured against standards, and Unat failure to act responsibly annihilates individuality. Shorn of all certainties, time cries out for valid guidelines to liv ing. It is our earnest desire at Brevard College that you will join with us in our conscienti ous search for meaningful val ues and lasting fulfillment. The second principle, relat ing to student welfare — physi cal and social, is necessary to fulfillment to the first. Stud ent morale is an important ad junct to education, and it is the desire of the college that your stay here be as pleasant and aimiable as possible. No expense has been spared in pro viding you with a physical en vironment you can be poud of, and you will witness every day further improvememts being made. I hope you will feel free to bring to me any complaints you have about our physical fa cilities. _ , , The social aspect of student living is one of the most mean ingful and complicating ele ments in the college experience. While it is obvious that the most significant part of college is academic, it is equally true that the friends you make here, the activities in which you partici pate become elements of your experience you will carry with you forever. The problem for the college administrator be comes, therefore, a matter of keeping the academic and social aspects of college balanced, making it possible for the in dividual student to achieve ma- imum benefits from both areas. It is for this reason that so cial regulations are relatively strict during the time of class es and relaxed on weekends. While the college encourages social activities it should be noted here that the primary re sponsibility for initiation of social activity rests with the stud ents. The social chairman of your student government as sociation will, therefore, welcome your individual suggestions. As dean of students I wel come you to Brevard College and wish for you a successful year and a period of profound p«rsonal enrichment. I look for ward to meeting you and being of what service I can. In the meantime be assured of the siirxere interest in you held by every member of the Brevard College family. Eston Roberts Dean of Students City Watch Shop ! 60 West Main St. Brevard, N, C.
