FEBRUARY 25, 1966 THE CLARION PAGE THREE “HE GOOFED”—There are no sharks like the guys waiting for the table. Dave Bradfield and Bill Patton carry on a running commentary about the skills of the players, much to the annoyance of same. But when the watchers become the players, the playei's will get their revenge. Competition? Basement Gets Spring Coat What’s new in the basement of the classroom building? A new coat of paint — pastel green —on the walls of the Day Stud ent lounge. After a little scraping and pul ling, the dreary gray paint, most of which was already O'ff, left the wall to make way for the spring - time fresh grassy green. The only disagreements among the occupants of the room are over the fruity colors of the curtains — olive or tan gerines — and the card games to be played. The “gamblers” invite every one down to their “home-away- from-home” to play cards and have a coke, as soon as the machine comes. McLartys Welcome In the 1965 Pertelote one can read of the President: “To the graduate he is a never-tojbe-for- gotten mspiration; to the return ing student he is a familiar face with a cheerful greeting; to the new student he is an immediate friend with an amiaible smile and a warm sense of humor.” The students at Brevard are fortunate in that each one of them has the opportunity to meet informally with the presi dent of the college, Dr. Emmett K. McLarty, Jr., and his gracious wife. For the last two years freshmen and new students have been invited in small groups to the McLarty home for coffee, tea, or a buffet. The hospitality at the social gatherings, evi dence of their interest and con cern for the students as individ uals, is more than a tribute to the hosts. It is also a tribute to A house that stands on rock or sand-wili it crumble when the wioid of competition blows hard against it? On the thiicd floor bulletin board, prepared by Kathy Ka- nipe, Joyce Parrish, and Mary Rickards of the Secretarial Brevard College. Students will be invited to about six or eight such events this year, and are sincerely urg ed to respond enthusiastically in accepting their invitation. Here Southern hospitality is at its best. iim aima Never Needs Ironing I When you se# tha LEVI'S STA-PREST name, you know you’re getting the ot//no-iron slacks proved in the mar ketplace! 'so/rs of Practice class, the rock and sand of the business and secretarial world are pictorially demonstrat ed. If one builds his work on rudeness and disloyalty and lack of effort, the first gust of competion will blow it over while that built on tact and loy alty and effort will, like the brick house built by the story book pig, last against anything. These girls, with their unusual bullentin board, ask the ques tion to every student at Brevard College — “Will my work stand up under competition?” Berry's Restaurant From A Snack To A Banquet tlMllllttlMMIMtllflllliMtMlltlMMinillMIMItlMltlltllllt “YOUR STORE” BOWER'S It’s Smart To Be Thrifty The Chef House At Brevard Lanes ORDERS TO GO Chicken Box 1.10 Shrimp Box 1.10 CALL 883-3491 FREE DELIVERY (Min-Order 2.50) Sharks' Enjoy New Tables An air of silence, contemplar tion, concentration hangs over the table. The conference table? No, the new pool table in the Student Lounge. It was install ed nearly two weeks ago under the sponsorship of the Student Government Association. The profits will go into S.A.G.’s treasury and at the present time the juke box seems to be falling behind in the race for the coins of the students. A pool table has also beea placed in the basement of Green Hall. The profits will also go into the treasury of the dormi tory. Jones Hall has a pool table on order by decree of the Wo men’s House Council. It will be situated in the basement o( Jones and profits will go into the dormitory fund. ‘Hustler’ Coining THE HUSTLER, starring Paul Newman, Jackie Gleason, Piper Laurie, and George C. Scott, will be shown on February 26. It is the bitter story of pool sharks and the gamblers who live off of them. Eddie Felson (Paul Newman) deliberately loses at pool until the stakes, are high enough, He wins the money but loses his self respect. Jackie Gleason’s portrayal of the champ in two exciting bat tles of skill and nerve is superb. The movie begins at 7:30 p. m. and lasts for two hours and fifteen minutes.
