Dunham Rocked \\ Pros" Finish First Dunham Auditorium rocked to the static beat of James T. and the Catalinas last Saturday evening. A crowd of about 200 students gathered for the swing ing event. Also on stage to dem onstrate their musical virtuosity were the Dynettes, a group vag uely resembling the Supremes. The dance, sponsored by Beam, Green, and Jones dormi tories and SGA, was dampened somewhat by the belated arriv al of the Catalinas, who final ly made the scene at 11 p. m. During the extended waiting period Brevard students show ed their creative ingenuity by joining hands and organizing a huge square dance. John Vimont took the spotlight on stage dem onstrating and calling the dance at the same time. Curfew was then extended to 1 a. m. to al low the couples more time to frug. The Catalinas appeared some what shaken from their trip, as they reeled off one obscure tune after another. One poor fellow, the trumpeter, was slightly higher than the stage. He played flat all evening. The drummer didn’t put out a very loud sound, or any or ganized rhythm for that mat ter, mainly because he was in tensely fearful that the tape on his repaired drum would break lose. The singer and guitarist had twice as much trouble as the drummer. He found it quite hard to hit the right notes in his profusion of loose strings. C. golfers, led by Walter Clayton with a 78 six over par, beat Lees McCrae 15 to 12. Clayton’s six over 78 won him medalist honors of the match. Close behind were Bre vard’s Bobby Williams and Ron nie Sherrill who shot 80 and 81 respectively. The Tornado scoring follows: Walter Clayton and John Trot ter combined to win 9 points and lose 0. Bob Cambpell and Bobby Williams teamed up to win 4 points while losing 5, and Tony Felthaus and Ronnie Sher rill won 2 points while losing 7 points. The students have speakers from various business fields which acquaints them with the broad outline of business life. The purpose of the club is to prepare them for their plunge into the working world. “To me, our B. D. is out standing. When I graduate this spring, I’m going to have confi dence in myself, because I know I have an excellent background in business to lean on,” com mented Elaine Byrd. “I’m always glad when my students continue college work, but we do our best to have each one of them ready to work in two years,” said Mrs. Munro. The Brevard College Track Team, under the direction of Coach Thad Talley, completely dominated action in a tri-meet with Gardner - Webb and Win gate College to win the meet with a total of 109 points. Gardner - Webb placed second with 53 points, followed by Win gate with 19 points. Two of “Talley’s Terrors” set new school records in the tri-meet. John Sim set a new record in the broad jump with a fabulous leap of 21’ 8” break ing the old record of 21” 6%” set in 1962 by Eddie Wallace. Roger Jones set a new record in the 440 yard intermediate hurdles with a tremendous time of 58.1 seconds. Roger bsoke his own record set earlier in the year of 58.6 seconds. The victory was another ex- Baseball Team Splits On April 15, the Brevard baseball team lost a conference game to Wingate 8-4, here at Brevard. The Tornadoes used three pitchers in this game. Starting pitcher Gerald Enter was re lieved after the first inning when he allowed 4 hits and 4 runs. Relief pitcher, Joe Mc Call, went for 4 2/3 innings be fore being relieved by Danny Denton. McCall allowed 5 hits and 4 runs. Denton relieved Mc Call in the last of the fifth in ning and pitched the remainder of the game, allowing only 1 hit and no runs. Charlie Stroudenmire was Brevard’s best batter, hitting 2 for 4. In the third inning, Danny Denton singled driving in Joe McCall. In the fourth inning. Tornado first baseman Phil Claytor singled, and was driven to third on a double hit by Stoudenmire. McCall singled driving in both players. Winning his first game of the season Enter allowed only 9 hits. He walked four and struck out five as he and the tough Brevard defense held Anderson to only three runs. Brevard co-captain, Johnny Gossett got things rolling for the Tornadoes in the seventh inning when he doubled, driving in Phil Claytor. Gossett then scored on Enter’s single. In the ninth inning Enter scored when pinch hitter Bill Farnum tripled. Farnum then scored the winning run when co-captain Johnny Warlick singled. Rackeeters Beat MA, Wingate The Brevard College Tennis Team won their fifth match of the season Monday April 17, by handing Montreat - Anderson Junior College a 7-1 setback. The Tornadoes are now 5-1 over all and 2-1 in conference play. The Tornadoes play host to N.C.J.C.C. foe, Gardner - Webb, this Saturday, April 22. Herb Rehberg nar rowly dropped his match to Walter Allen of Wingate by set scores of 6-3, 6-1. Jim Case eas ily won his match 6-2, 6-2. Rich ard Marvin played excellent ten nis as he won easily by set scores of 6-2, 6-1. Bill Means, playing the fifth spot for Bre vard, won his match 6-4, 6-4.
